Assuming a season of course.
Who do you see stepping up? Who might be stepping down? Anyone look to be ready to bust out?

"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Re: Which Spurs will surprise this year?
Well, the one with the best chance of stepping up obviously is Tiago Splitter. No matter what, it's most likely that he'll start getting atleast 20 minutes a game this year whether it's as a starter next to TD or comes off the bench.
If we're talking stepping down, perhaps it's the guy that Tiago takes most of his minutes. Matt Bonner. He basically had a career year last year and with limited minutes, he's gonna see his numbers fall everywhere. I'm secretly hoping James Anderson breaks out.
I'm not sure who else are candidates here.
Gary Neal might not be able to surprise people like he did last year but with George Hill gone, he's still gonna get his minutes.

I could really see Neal struggling at the start of this/next seasonand Anderson stepping up and taking all of Neals minutes.
Injuries and the emergence of Garl Neal basically put Anderson on the end of bench last year, but he's way too good of scorer to stay there.

Re: Which Spurs will surprise this year?
I think Anderson and Splitter have the biggest chance of having "breakout" years but in Tiago's case all he would doing is making up for the pathetic showing he had in his rookie year.
Hopefully RJ will surprise everyone and actually show up in a playoff series for once.

Leonard will be a rotation player because of his defense and activity alone...

^ Agreed I really hope that Leonard has a strong start to his San Antonio career, really need him to bring some youth and energy to some tired legs.

What do you think will happen with Blair? Do you think Splitter will take most of his minutes?

And we really need some production out the SF position.

Re: Which Spurs will surprise this year?
With a shortened season I'm liking the idea of our old guys being still fairly fresh for the playoffs. I think Manu and TD could have some seriously strong post seasons.
So hopefully everything going to plan we should be in some shape to mount a deep attack into the west.

Re: Which Spurs will surprise this year?
The 3 games in 3 days thing will wear our old guys down, but yeah the shortened season should help us quite a bit. I still think we're too weak defensively and on the boards to make a deep playoff run, so as constructed I think we're at best a 2nd round playoff team.
I'm hoping for Anderson to have a big year, and I am looking forward to seeing what Leonard provides us.
