Erazem Lorbek

Post#1 » by jolbin » Sat Jun 16, 2012 8:27 pm

I was just wondering, what do you think the Spurs plans are with Erazem?
I have heard that he would like to try out in the NBA, and as the Spurs own his rights and really suit his game i think he would be a really nice addition to this team? He was just selected as the MVP of the Spanish league Playoffs, after Barcelona won the title once again. He averaged 17&5&2.
Do you think that recent addition of Diaw makes Lorbek not needed at Spurs?

I think the Spurs would like to keep Diaw and bring Lorbek, but we know it's difficult financially unless one of them is willing to take the bi-annual (4m/2years). After we re-sign TD, we will have only the MLE to spend.

Personally, i would love to see him as a Spur. I know he is not very athletic, but he is a great shooter and he has a very nice post game.

As for the last question : Not at all. He would be a huge upgrade over Bonner or Blair. My pipe-dream would be the Spurs going with Lorbek/Diaw/Duncan/Splitter as our front-court rotation.
Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

I'm not counting on a foreign rookie big to actually be a difference maker.

When it comes to bigs, what we need right now is an athletic shotblocking big man. Give me Hassan Whiteside. I want an athletic shotblocking big man on the team. Everytime Duncan comes out, we have no one to challange shots.

I will disagree with you on this co_laper. We said the same thing about Scola and we all know how things turned out.

Lorbek is proven player in Europe, in the same mold of Scola when he came. He is not a young guy trying to learn the game. He knows how to play the game and he can help us right now.

I agree with you that we need an athletic shot-blocker, but we would gladly welcome a post scorer as well. Other than TD, we have no post presence offensively. Considering how TD struggled against Perkins/Ibaka, Lorbek could have helped a lot.

And Hassan Whiteside? Next season will be his 3rd year in the NBA and he still doesn't know how to play the game and barely got minutes with the Kings. If Lorbek can't make the difference as a foreign rookie like you said, Whiteside can't be a difference maker either.

Here in Barcelona, the press is telling he will be a spur 100%

He´s a very good FIBA player. Good moves on post, good open shot, intelligent...but a little slow, he doesn´t block shots, average defender, average rebounder. Skilled but unathletic

Scola is a good comparision. Useful for a coach like Popovich
