Mills' new deal is until the end of the 2013-14 season, but he has another option in his contract to review his future next year

This is great news for both the spurs and patty, I'm guessing patty will back up parker this year? Neal will play more of the shooting guard role? And De Colo will have to prove his worth just like patty had to

I wasn't really impressed with him. And if he's backing up Parker instead of being a garbage time player, I think that's a problem.

His deal is 2y/2.2m. Decent deal for him.

He will probably fight for the PG backup spot with Nando.

He can shoot the ball. has range and he is fearless. Not to mention the boy is the ultimate teammate and i love that about him.

I think when his shot is off he needs to learn how to involve his teammates better, otherwise he looks like a chucker out of control. That's the only aspect i feel he needs to get better. He can learn a lot from Tony, since both are scoring PGs.
Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

I don't see the "ultimate teammate" thing at all. Does this mean he's a towel waver from the bench? Because when he's out there on the court, all he does is chuck up shot after shot. He doesn't get his teammates involved. I get that he's cheap but compare him to a player like TJ Ford (probably the best backup point we've had years) and you come up short.

We will agree to disagree then

And i don't think Mills comes up short compared to Ford at all. Ford was decent, but nothing special and really washed up. Ford was a better passer, but he was nothing special.

Ford

3.6/3.2/1.3 51.9% TS PER 11 in 13 minutes per game

Mills

10.3/2.4/1.8 60.4%TS PER 21.5 in 16 minutes per game

Mills is not injury prone, he is young and he can still be developed. That was a great signing, not matter if you like Mills or not.

I'm not saying Patty isn't a good teammate, but I don't really get why he would be considered the "ultimate" teammate? What exactly has he done to differentiate himself as a better teammate than Blair? Bonner? Diaw? Jackson? Green? Everybody in the roster...

And you have to go beyond the boxscore with Mills and Ford man. You do realize that Neal was our primary backup PG last year after Ford retired. Patty played in certain games only againts inferior competition. I don't remember who we played, but i'm sure if you look it up, it's either games where Parker gets rest, or it was a game where we're on a b2b and Parker has to be limited, or it was a game againts weak competition. Him and before him, Joseph, was the only 2 guys on the team we did that to.

Patty also played mostly with Manu on the floor as the playmaker. In a sense, Patty and Manu play better together than Neal and Manu because Neal got to a point where he's still playing PG when Manu is on the floor. That's just irritating to see. Almost as if you have Danny Green running the Point when Parker is on the floor. Patty atleast plays off Manu and that's why Patty does shoot a lot. Thankfully, he's a pretty good shooter.

But when it comes to Ford, Ford actually ran the point when Manu was injured and excelled. Even won us some games and forced Pop to play 2 point guards in Ford and Parker. When have we ever done that? Don't count George Hill because the kid is a combo guard. Ford was great defensively in his short time here and I didn't know he actually played defense. I thought Ford was Calderon-like defensively. And then Ford's inability to shoot 3 pointers actually did him good on our offense because he penetrates all the time and he's extremely unselfish often founding bigs and 3 pointers. I'll even go as far as saying Ford ran the team as good as Parker does in his limited minutes.

I totally agree that Ford played that backup PG better than anyone I've seen put on a Spurs uniform.

Now for Mills, I do expect him to get backup PG minutes especially during the regular season where we don't exhaust our whole team up. Between him and Joseph, I feel that Mills has more experience and is a good shooter. Joseph is just too raw. But when it comes to playoff time, I hope Mills only get garbage time. I want Parker and Manu running the point. Between Manu, Jackson, Kawhi, and Green should soak up all the minutes in SG/SF. This time, I want a shorten bench after the allstar break. We usually do that to our team after the allstar break. Cut it down to 8-9 guys with the 9th guy getting less than 10 minutes.

mills signs 2 year deal

Mills also got some inflated stats where he got big minutes where he had some big scoring games (like the one where gs tanked)
Ford was a much better defender and passer. He won us a couple of games with his play of the bench.
Ford had a great BbIQ

Mills is a chucker who only plays point guard is because he isn't tall enough to play SG.
I don't mind the contract but I am slightly concerned that we have him and an untried rookies as our primary backups.

As an Australian I'm excited that mills got a 2yr deal but not sure he is a player the spurs needed, we'll see soon though

I would of much preferred CJ Watson... would of been our best back-up PG since Speedy Claxton and Antonio Daniels

Return to San Antonio Spurs
