Howdy.
As a Hawks fan first and Spurs fan second, I'm curious what your thoughts are on the rumored Smith deal? It's probably a smokescreen, but if a trade were to happen, what would you want?
From the Hawks point of view, the only player of your's we'd really want would be Leonard. I understand that's a long shot, but could a Josh/Korver deal bring us Leonard and (a lot) of filler (with no Splitter)? I'd think a Parker/Gino/Korver/Smith/Duncan lineup could win a championship or two before Duncan retires, and then when he and Ginobili hang it up, Parker/Smith/Splitter/Korver is still pretty potent.
Could Josh/Korver bring back something like Leonard/Jackson/Diaw or Bonner?

Or, alternatively, a Horford deal that brings back Leonard?

I don't think we'd trade Horford for Leonard, the only reason we're trying to trade Smith is because he's expiring and wants the max, we don't have those issues with Horford

Re: Josh Smith
If the asking price is Leonard, then no deal make sense.
Say we trade Leonard for Horford or Josh Smith. What's the point really? You improve your PF position, but downgrade your SF. That's a lateral move. Not to mention that any deal involving Horford and Smith means we also trade Jackson. So we trade the only 2 SF we have.
Also, where does this leave Tiago? He's a RFA this summer, but if we were to actually trade for Al or Josh, then that relegates Tiago to the bench and he's gonna command big money this summer. Doesn't make sense to keep Tiago at a high price to become a bench guy.
To me, the only thing that make sense from a Spurs point of view is if it's to exchange Tiago with Josh as the main pieces. But to trade for Kawhi makes no sense. And it changes the whole roster. You're basically incorporating 2 new players to the starting lineup. Josh at PF, and whoever is our new SF. With our current record, it's too big of a change.

I haven't watched Josh Smith lately, but based on past years I think he has potential but at the same time he's a bit overrated and especially I don't think he'd fit in this type of system. But if Pop does the magic (make him a good-to-elite pick n roll/pop player, high awarned defender team defender et cetera) then I guess we could give Thiago. But not Leonard

Re: Josh Smith
Smith makes no sense for us at all. These rumors are all based around the fact that Danny Ferry used to work for us, if anything comes from this i'll be shocked.

Word.
Not to be pushy, but Korver and Josh can both play the 3 (Josh can play it particularly with someone like Bonner at the 4 spot). And right now, Josh has more impact than Leonard.
However, Leonard is a lot younger and a lot cheaper, and it could certainly turn out to be a lateral move. Just curious what y'all thought of it.

Re: Josh Smith
As it's been said I have a feeling that any Smith to San Antonio rumors are solely based on the fact that Danny Ferry used to work for us.
I don't think any deal is likely to happen.
I like Josh smith but I like Leonards potential and the fact he isn't commanding max money so wouldn't trade him.
In terms of using splitter as the centerpiece, in the short term I can see why that works but after TD retires we have no big men to play center.
So i think I'd pass on a Josh Smith trade.

Re: Josh Smith
I don't see Smith here at all. As mentioned I think the Ferry connection is what started all this chatter. We generally don't make big moves midseason, and why give up Leonard now? We've already got the best record, why take a chance on an older player that hasn't won anything and has shown he can be immature at times? Makes no sense.
