The awards keep coming for Tony Parker, who has been named FIBA Europe Player of the Year after leading France to victory at last summer’s EuroBasket for its first major championship.
Parker had previously won Gazzetta Dello Sport’s European Player of the Year award, voted on by journalists who cover European basketball. The FIBA honor is the most prestigious of all, resulting from a vote of not only fans but a panel of media members and coaches from more than 20 countries.
While Parker has won the Gazzetta’s award twice, this is his first time to claim the FIBA prize, which was first awarded in 2005. He took took 34 percent of the vote, easily out-distancing Vassilis Spanoulis (13 pct) and Marc Gasol (9 pct).
Its his first time winning it and its well deserved after the summer he had playing for France.
