Duncan Opts In

Post#1 » by Nolan » Mon Jun 23, 2014 9:36 pm

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/233882/Tim-Duncan-Opts-Into-$103M-Contract-For-14-15-With-Spurs

Tim Duncan has decided to opt into the final season of his contract with the San Antonio Spurs, worth approximately $10.3 million.

Duncan will revisit his future with the Spurs next summer.

There had been reports earlier on Monday that Duncan may sign a new contract with the Spurs in order to reduce his 14-15 salary.

No big surprise, just confirmation of what we all already knew.

Happy to see this in writing! Get another year to watch the greatest Spur to date and a legitimate shot to get 6.

Woohoo one last rodeo from TD

Anyone reckon he'll sign for an extra year to chase a 3peat if we win this season?

Depends on how healthy he feels at the end of the playoffs IMO. The limit for old players seems to be 40. Once you're 40, you're just way too broken down to be a regular rotation player. So I think if Tim is healthy and doesn't have any nagging injuries that takes away his effectiveness, I think he plays as long as he can until he's 40.

I just really can't see it though. If I have to bet, I bet on this being his last season.. No matter if we win another title or not. Each year he doesn't get injured just surprises me right now. He's been healthier now at 35-37 years old than he was in his 20s. That's just weird.

Doesn't matter if he wins a title next year, he's been playing with house money for a while now. This is just the Duncan farewell tour year. Every opposition team's building is going to sell out for Duncan's last game there.

Great to hear he'll be back.

It's been a treat to watch this guy do his thing since 1997, and I don't think his true value will be appreciated until after he retires.

I honestly will be shocked if we win a title next year because of our past track record of seasons after titles. On the bright side it is a goal the franchise has never accomplished so maybe they will be up mentally for the challenge.
