crazy idea

Post#1 » by LesGrossman » Fri May 1, 2015 8:18 pm

Hey what do Spurs fans think of the idea to integrate Ricky Rubio? It would be a dramatically different approach to have a point guard who actually looks to set up the team, and coupled with the constant off ball movement and inside/outside game i could see this work out great. Maybe the spurs personnel could even improve his shot, it worked with other guards too.

I like Rubio, but we would have to fundamentally change the offence for Rubio.
Parker is one of the players that can genuinely create his own shot and carry an offence when healthy.
Also Parkers midrange game in the pick and roll is a staple of our offence. I don't think Rubio would be as effective in that sense.

But I am a fan of Rubio and with the right players around him. Which I think we have, it wouldn't be difficult to put together an effective offensive system.

We'd have to change our entire offense but I think he would work really well here.

Jeremy Lin would work better and cost a lot less. Good pick and roll player, can get to the hoop and score or draw a foul as good as just about any PG and has quite a decent mid range jumper.

I love Rubio and I think Pop could be the guy to maximize his playmaking prowess and rein in his awful individual offense. But we'd have to find something to do with Parker, and it makes me sad to think of him getting traded.

I'm also not sure his strengths are as important in Pop's system as a guy who can distribute decently well but also score himself. If there's one thing Rubio should never ever try to do again in his NBA career, it's score a basket.
