Spurs sign Jonathon Simmons

The San Antonio Spurs have signed Austin D-League guard Jonathon Simmons to a two-year contract worth the veteran's minimum, league sources told RealGM.

Simmons averaged 15.2 points and 4.3 rebounds for the Spurs' D-League affiliate last season. He went unselected in the 2012 NBA Draft out of Houston.

Another under the radar move.

Don't know a whole lot about him either, seems to be a slasher. Not sure if he's just training camp fodder or a guy who's going to be on the roster opening day.

So I guess the first year of Simmons deal is guaranteed, which means he's probably not just training camp fodder.

Cant believe we didn't grab Gerald Green, especially since Miami paid him peanuts.

He wouldn't of been a good fit. Guy has a negative bball iq, Pop's would of murdered him.

This should be the last signing we have for this summer. Spurs FO usually leave out one open roster spot during the season and try out some D-league guys. RC was quoted in years past that they like to keep that last spot open in case when veterans get bought out as the season gets closer to trade deadline.

As it is, I feel like we're very thin at SG/SF, and Kyle Anderson better be ready.. It looks like the Spurs have faith in Kyle being a backup SF. I just don't think he's ready.. Kyle is a guy that's better with the ball in his hands and dribble around.. Something that I don't think he'll do much of with Diaw and Manu on the floor with him in that 2nd unit. If Kyle becomes more of a spot up shooter like I think he will, it's gonna get very ugly.

Augusto Cesar Lima, 23 years old.

MVP of ACB this year, played for Brazil in 2015 Pan American games...

great defender, he jumps a lot. It's fast, great basketball IQ. Guy is a monster. NBA scouts, open your eyes!

Would you be interested in K. Papanikolaou who got waived by the Nuggets? He 's tough, he can really pass for a F, rebounds decently, runs the floor very well. He shot woefully in his rookie season with Rockets, but he was a career 38% 3pt shooter here in Europe, so I believe he'll adjust sooner or later to the NBA 3p line..

Yes, Kostas Papanikolaou would fit perfect to the Spurs system ...
He is a younger and slimmer Boris Diaw !!!
Coach Pop get him !!!
He got waived from Denver... Real opportunity !!!

Return to San Antonio Spurs
