Last night against the Knicks we went with Kawhi at the 4 for the last couple minutes of the 4th to better match up against Melo and I think it was the first time this season that we've gone small when the score actually mattered. Which got me thinking, why don't we do it more often?
At times our offense just gets completely bogged down with LMA and Duncan both in the paint and it wouldn't be a bad idea for us to go small from time to time with Kawhi at 4 to speed things and get the ball moving. It'd also be benifical for Kawhi, he's proven in the past that he can dominate at the 4 in small stretches.
So what do you fellas think? Should we try to play more small ball?

Re: Small Ball
Absolutely agree. Kawhi is in a league of his own this year and i don't see why we can't have him stretch to the 4 more often. I mean we have excellent wing players, plus if you throw in manu on a good day it could be **** deadly.
Also it gives Tony SO much more freedom to cut into the paint and do his crazy french bendy body and-1 thing. I mean we've seen it on and off with the same line up for the past 3 years or so. I really think it could give us an unpredictable streak which we've kinda lacked in the past couple years (bar manu of course).

It'd probably be good for Danny too. He wouldn't have to do as much with the ball just stand in the corner and attempt to knock down 3's.
A lineup of Parker, Manu, Green, Leonard, LMA would be spacing heaven.

Re: Small Ball
That's a great idea for the Spurs. With the way the small ball era is starting to take over the NBA a bit, it would be a wise move for the Spurs to implement into their scheme. The Grizzlies were forced into the scheme this season considering the season they are having so far. The problem with them playing the small ball scheme is that we neither have a go to scorer nor a shot creator to help make the scheme work.

Re: Small Ball
spurs must dictate how the game is played and not matchup whatever crap the other team is fielding...
u go big and force the other team to go big, dominate them from the get go, continue to push it in
any lineup the spurs field, spurs must crash the boards offensively which is the spurs bread and butter now for 2nd chance points and domination in the paint...LMA offensive rebounds this season if probably his best ever for his career...

We went small with Anderson at the 4 for a little while last night and we looked really good. That GSW game on the 25th is going to be interesting.

If I could start a team with any player in the world it would be Leonard.

maybe pop has figured out a way to stop athletic guards...chuck a lengthy player onto them...
KA minimal minutes against the cavs on irving...contain him from attempting to shoot

I would like to see that matchup so bad. It would not surprise me if Pop puts Kawhi on Curry in some of their defensive sets.

Re: Small Ball
seems like teams dont have answers for lma or west when their offensive game is ticking....just bullying players into the posts and scoring or spot up shooting... not concern with the defense from these 2, especially west who pokes the entry first instead of trying to man up on defense if he knows his going to be beatened

I have a feeling he's going to start with Green on him but I could definitely see Kawhi guarding him late in the game.
