Bargin Free Agent Targets

Post#1 » by Nolan » Thu May 25, 2017 2:37 pm

Reality is we're probably not going to have a lot of cap space this summer. Gasol's more than likely going to opt in, it looks like Lee is going to as well now, Parker isn't going anywhere and it appears that Manu is retiring. Add in us resigning even one of our free agents and poof cap space gone!

So if we're going to pick anyone up this summer it's going to have to be via the room exception.

Our potential roster currently (I left out the free agents):

PG - Parker/Murray
SG - Green/Forbes
SF - Kawhi/Anderson
PF - LMA/Bertans
C- Gasol/Lee

So currently we have 10 players if Gasol and Lee pick up their options and Dedmon declines his. Add in whoever we pick up at 29 and we're at 11 which leaves us with 4 open spots to fill with either guys we bring over from overseas (Hanga and/or Milutinov), or resigning our own guys (Mills, Simmons and Dedmon), or with free agents.

Some potential targets:

PG's - Deron Williams, Beno Udrih, Sergio Rodriguez, Shelvin Mack

SG/SF's - Thabo Sefolosha, Gerald Green, Anthony Morrow, Kyle Korver, Ian Clark, Omri Casspi, Justin Holiday

PF/C's - Cristiano Felicio, Mike Muscala, Amir Johnson, Joffrey Lauvergne, Roy Hibbert

These are just some guys I thought would be decent fits feel free to throw out some other names as well.

parker will be out for half of the new season....why dont he just retire and allow the spurs use that available cap to sign someone better....he wants to go out on his own terms? spurs didnt even send td and manu out correctly, but they went out sending the spurs a good financial position t o sign someone...this guy man....

deron williams will stay with cavs if they win a ring or not, dont see him leaving unless the money is too much he cant refuse
udrih, can he still bring the ball upcourt? wouldnt mind him back for vet or minimum off the bench
cp3 aint giving up 200m, no way spurs doing a sign and trade giving up alot of pieces then signing crap to play...1+1 deal?
(if cp3 leaves, and clippers go into rebuild...they get rid of blake and reddick, whats the point of keeping jordan without a pg to feed him??)
ghill3 makes some sense if his wililng to come here for 20m or less...can play/defend 3 positions...could expend green position if needed, u still keep simmons off the bench who is a better player

todays league u dont need dominant centers, u need defensive bigs who can defend and hustle on boards for easy points around the basket, and make that ft...i dont think spurs should spend anything over 10m for a big...if they can get cp3 or ghill, then all they need is a big who knows how to finish strong off them...

Baynes opted out of his deal in Detroit. I would not mind seeing him back in the silver and black.

Langston Galloway just declined his PO with the Kings. Another potential buy low PG option for us.

Guys like Galloway you can get for the vet minimum in February if someone gets hurt. I don't think we need to go out of our way for a PG the way we run our offense.

With what little money we have we need someone else besides Kawhi who can score consistently. Or spend it on a personal motivator for Aldridge

I'm game!

I really wonder how Splitter's doing heath wise. I watched him play a bit in Philly at the end of the year and he actually looked pretty good.

Guy was always solid when healthy. Just a little on the timid side which drove me crazy. If he plays aggressive he is more helpful than Gasol IMO. I'm for a Baynes/Splitter/Gasol platoon system.
