Thanks for posting this, pad. Just finished listening to the whole thing. Astonishing in detail, if not unexpected. Rumblings of the uncle's out-of-touch, unprofessional handling of Kawhi and dealing with the Spurs have trickled here and there, but now Michael C. Wright and other Spurs writers are coming forward with more specific info.

It's a wonder that the Spurs have put up with so much for so long. Of course, a franchise player is incentive, but I honestly believe the Spurs are concerned for Kawhi's long-term well being and are trying to get through to him. But while the uncle has a weird influence despite how badly bungled it has been, it is ultimately Leonard's choice to keep him in that position. Unless he's the most gullible player ever, he's plainly ok with it, and so he's contributing to the mess. So unfortunate and miscalculated and revealing.

A lot of interesting details revealed, but two stood out: one that made me laugh was that the uncle has some sort of consultation firm (I'd forgotten about that) teaching players how to conduct themselves professionally and with the media (LOLWUT?!); the other is more serious and hasn't gotten attention, but the doctor Leonard settled on is actually also the Sixers team doctor. How is that not a conflict of interest? Is there some HIPAA issue? I'm going to assume no, but I don't know why.

Is the uncle some business mogul or has a successful career of some kind?

Or is he just someone talking a lot of **** at the barbershop and Kawhi just happens to be his nephew and is listening to him for some unfathomable reason?

In the podcast pad posted, the panelists were basically saying this is "What NOT To Do 101" if there were a business course in handling a business of this nature. I don't know what business acumen he has (that consulting firm, and some real estate in NY), but it is clearly not translating well to the needs of NBA players.

It looks as if they're trying to do with Kawhi what LBJ has with his group, and Ball with his father in terms of representation and marketing, but are going about getting there so badly that it is standing out all the more with more info coming out. Leonard is their only signed NBA player, and at this rate, that is how it will remain - unless Leonard comes to his senses and gets proper professional representation. Then again, he had that and changed to this, so if he's somehow satisfied with how he is being currently represented, you have to conclude that, unless he's hypnotized or something, he's in on it, which would be troubling and disappointing.

So everyone knows how Kawhi was perceived around the league prior to last year. Really likeable humble guy etc.

Was there stuff that went on at all with him prior to last year that made this whole thing unsurprising? Basically I ask because kyrie was a turd from day one so no big surprise but you never heard anything about Kawhi.

This is one of the weirdest nba stories I remember. Such a rapid change in perception of h
Kawhi.

Absolutely none. Spurs seem to have a handle on media being nosy. Popovich always mentions 'family business' when people have questions about the inner workings and lets them know it's none of their business. This is a complete blindside.
