Kyle Anderson Signs Offer Sheet with Grizzlies

As a Grizzlies follower, I'm a bit puzzle by the move. KA has had a slow start towards getting going for the Spurs. This past season had been the better one so far into his career. But for 37.2 mil, I really question the Grizzlies fiscal responsibility more.

With a larger role, I think Anderson could be a 15/7/5 guy with decent shooting splits. That should be worth 9m/year.

I hope we retain him. He's a big help on D, and was growing in confidence on O. Will likely have a bigger role for us this year, too, assuming we match. RC mentioned him as part of the young core, so I hope Kyle remains a Spur.

I hope the spurs are smart enough to match that... They should be.

I would hate to lose him. There are a lot worse guys making a lot more than that in this league and with the cap going up next year this will be a bargain going forward.

green and gay are on 1yr deals, whose to say they will return or leave after new season, then u have to go out looking for that wing player again through fa or draft

should just keep kyle who can play both the forward positions, is better then whatever young guys we got on the roster atm to fullfill those roles/mins.....bp isnt a solution also at the 3 long term...

grizz has some good youth perimeter players, dunno why they chasing anderson

This. I actually hope he goes to the griz because I think they'll give him more freedom. The guys not even 25 years old and had the 32nd highest RPM last year in the NBA starting on a 47 win overachieving team team and he was a big part of it. Average starter is 15 million that's a deal in my opinion they getting him less than 10 million with bums like Zach LaVine still signing a big contract.

Word on Twitter is that we're unlikely to match. DAMN IT! It'll be hard to find a replacement for similar money who knows the system and is such a great defender and fits so well with our other players - as has been pointed out by PATFO several times. Developing guys and then hoping to retain them for $5M/yr is hard to do with RFAs. As it stands, if true, big loss in terms of value for money. I don't get it, but I also am not privy to other potential players coming our way so...

Damn...
Well I'll trust that the Spurs have a plan and know what they are doing. Perhaps they are thinking of pulling the trigger on a deal to trade Kawhi and we are getting someone back that makes Anderson not as important?
Also, every summer league game I watch it seems as if Jaron Blossomgame is the only player we have that looks NBA ready. Maybe plans are to move him here?

Blossomgame (AWESOME last name, had to be said) is more aggressive, and gets points from inside and outside I think more consistently, but Kyle's got two inches on him, and has that sneaky game and rhythm that always throws opponents off. They're the same age, but Kyle's D at the next level has really stood out. I give credit to JB for looking good, but it is SL, so there'll be some growing pains at the next level, I suspect.

I'm really conflicted about this news of Kyle possibly not returning. It's one thing to let go of a guy in his late 20s projecting as a fringe starter, but Kyle's 24, we developed him so no learning curve, and has such a unique game than really anyone else we have at the 3/4; he can offer something different, plus great D. He was such a consistent player on that end for us, and filled in so well with so many players in and out of the line-up, that I'm surprised we may be handing him over. Plus, chemistry and all that is a factor. But like you said, we don't know who could potentially be filling the void, so we have to trust that what the Spurs have in mind is the standard of at minimum Kyle, but perhaps a better O/D balance.

Mixed feelings about Anderson leaving the Spurs... but, a big question mark at SF, and takes away a consistent, quality playmaker, and a small-ball four.

Oh well.

Guess we'll see what hybird forwards are on the radar. Maybe Blossomgame. Liked what I've seen of him.

Kyle will be missed.. he turned his game around very well in 16-17 as a spark off the bench, slowly came on.. and then got really good in 2017-18. Very smart and enjoyable to watch, creative player.

Like i said, I will trust the FO knows what they are doing.
Maybe they have a good idea that Kawhi is staying, meaning Anderson's role will be greatly reduced for that price? Or maybe promises were made to Rudy Gay so that he would resign?
Maybe its just a goodwill thing like Boban, or Baynes, Joseph...etc where we knew they wouldn't get much chance here going forward and if they wanted the bigger contract they would have to move on?

He will have a larger role there.

Good for him.
