we play small ball in the clutch (could be beacuse we dont have the personnel to play big) but hinrich can play finleys SG spot. he can spot up and shoot and he can create his own offense so it would be a HUGE upgrade over finley. hinrich from what i have seen is also an excellet defender, so again, HUGE upgrade over finley. what does concern me tho is that hes also a GAINT upgrade in salary compared to finley.

btw is hinrich a FA, what is the proposed plan to get him?

Spurs' Horry Says Return Is 'Up In The Air'
May 31, 2008 - 10:38 pm
USA Today -
Spurs forward Robert Horry has not yet decided whether he is going to retire or play on next season, according to a report by the Associated Press.

"Right now I'm up in the air," Horry said. "That's all I can really tell you, up in the air. I want to play, 80% of me wants to play and I'm sure as soon as I get in the gym and see people bouncing the ball it would turn into 100%. So we'll just have to wait and see what happens."

Horry is one of my all-time favorite players, and I know you guys are trying to get younger, but I wanna see him back, Barkley kept mentioned "he's done , he's done, and he cant play" but he's still does little things out there on D, like deflecting, and hustles for a couple of minutes bursts while he's on the floor...I dont think he'll be back with the spurs, so i'm not sure he will be back at all...but i wana see him 1 more time :(

Horry is one of my favorites too..the clutchest player in NBA history IMO..but he's absolutely done..his offensive game is just disgusting..

I like the idea of starting Hinrich at the 2 guard. He has a good jumper and would pair up pretty well with Parker in the back court. Also, he is a very good defender who would work immediately become our 3rd best defender behind Duncan and Bowen. I think it's a luxury for a team to be able to have good defenders who also have good offensive game. Hinrich could easily be a 15ppg 4 - 5 asst guy for us.

Alternatively, I wouldn't mind Duhon taking Vaughns role.

Given the option between taking Duhon or Hinrich, I'd prefer Frodo but wouldn't be disappointed at all with Duhon.

Edit: However, that would give us a very small backcourt which could become an issue matching up against larger backcourts in the league and I really don't feel that we have any tradeable assets that the Bulls or any other team would be interested in.

Finley Isn't Ready To Retire Just Yet
June 1, 2008 - 11:52 am
The San Antonio Express-News -
Michael Finley, who will become a free agent on July 1, isn't quite ready to call it quits, according to The San Antonio Express-News.

He started 61 games for the Spurs this past season.

"I'm not ready to hang it up yet," he said Saturday. "I still feel I can give a team some added help."

"In a perfect world, I'd love to stay here and help reclaim a championship. But I understand it's a business, so from that standpoint, I have to remain open-minded," he added.

He admitted that the sting of losing to the Lakers in the Conference Finals hasn't worn off just yet either.

"I haven't had time to think about being a free agent," Finley said, "but it is my future, so it's something that, at some point, I will have to sit down with my agent and my family and make a decision about what we have in store."

Finley doesn't want to call it quits yet either, i know both chances are slim, but who has the greater chance of returning, finley or horry?

We need a scoring big alongside Duncan, who could probably come off the bench, play 30 good minutes, rebound and knock down shots as well play the post.. one who can be had for cheap is Charlie V.. sure his defense isn't great, but in Pop's system, he could be a good team defender.. and he can be had for cheap too.. I think a package of this year's first pick and the right to splitter (who knows when he's gonna come down) will do.

and then we can go on and sign someone like carlos delfino + ryan gomes using our MLE...

TP / Vaughn
Ginboli / Delfino / Udoka
Bowen / Gomes / Udoka
Duncan / Charlie V
Duncan / Oberto / Mahinmi

I wouldn't be totally against getting Villanueva, don't know how feasible it is though.

villanueva is antoine walker v0.5, or a much worse version of mehmet okur, whichever you prefer.

this is a power forward that shot 185 threes last season, more than 2 a game, but hit on less than 30% of them. he had an ast/to ration below one, a 0.71 to be exact. thats not on the "eddy curry level" (0.26 career ast/to), but you really want to be above the mendoza line of 1.0. for comparisons sake, kwame brown posted a 0.9 this year, and nazr "lead-hands" mohammed managed a 0.73 this season.

besides, we already have matt bonner, who is CV minus a some athleticism, but with an actual stroke on his shot.

Maybe Batum will fall to us the way Splitter did last year. He might become something with a little of Pop's tough love.

He always needs a player to be in his doghouse... Bonner isn't really his type of guy. He is old. He needs a young guy that will fear him.

i cant see rush making it to us. nbadraft.net is crap until about a week before the draft. their final mock is usually spot on, but they are essentially useless until then. and the realgm mock is just awful (love at 15!). i think rush and batum are safely in the 15-25 range. i think courtney lee is probably in the 25-35 range. and while i have my concerns about him stepping in right away and making an impact, but hes got enough very positive things to keep me interested.

I would like to see Lee's measurements... I just don't trust the reported college measurements. He is already undersized and I wouldn't want him if he is closer to 6'3 than 6'5.

how about antonie wright? he played well on the nets but got zero playing time with the mavericks. he could be a huge sleeper.
