Re: SPURS 2024 DRAFT THREAD
I come in peace...but I just felt like I had to say a combo of players that I don't understand why they're not more talked about as choices for your team that unless your FO really believes there's a player that could break out and become a star (ie/ Saluan, Buzelis...whoever) then idk how Clingan at 4 & Carter at 8 isn't the top of your boards.
In what's considered a weak draft your team can all but ensure a top 5-10 defence for the next decade plus...
If you wanted to put that in hyper drive you'd pursue OG too but I'll leave that alone for now. But really I can't think of 2 players who's experience & character would be a better fit into the Spurs' franchise. They're not gonna catapult you into the Playoffs in year 1 and we know your FO isn't scared to "rest" players down the stretch of the season that also just so happens to improve your draft stock. But to me it's almost too easy to picture guys like Carter or Clingan being a part of some huge plays in future Playoffs' series for you guys and you basically have all the framework in place to add another good talent in next year's draft, with a ton of cap space to pursue a top FA for more scoring OR you use those ATL picks to trade for it OR you continue to add lottery talents thanks to the stupidity of the Hawks while your team continues to ascend. But I just think Clingan & Carter (maybe Steph if he fell to 8 & take both UCONN bros) are exactly the kinds of players I could see being part of different runs for your franchise but that's just my 2c

Just listened to the Piston press conference where Langdon said they are willing to take on players with assets attached. He didnt say Lavine specifically but everyone here assumes thats what he is talking about.
I hope so. KEEP HIM AWAY FROM MY SPURS!

I'm pretty sure the entire planet thinks we are taking a wing or PG at #4 which is why Clingan never gets mentioned. Also we have worked out a bazillion players and Clingan isnt one of them that I know of. Maybe its a smoke screen so no one thinks we are taking him. I have seen a couple of mocks that say we would select him though.
As far as Carter, he is projected mid to late teens in mocks I have seen so many would think we wouldnt reach that far at #8 unless there is some trade incoming. (If its a choice between Carter and one of the Kentucky guards I'll take Carter 10 times out of 10)

With Spurs having worked the 2 out able to get one of Carter or Castle at 8, I'd have to think this is an indictment, to now be trading the pick.

List of known workouts is updated in the first post here. As far as we know, no Sarr, no Clingan, no other potential lotto bigs worked out. Lots of guards, though, and a couple of forwards.
Agree about Carter vs. KU guys.
It's clear what we need and clear there's a plethora of choices in them.

Re: SPURS 2024 DRAFT THREAD
The Spurs are one of five teams expected to show interest in Harris once free agency begins, according to Haynes. The others are Utah, Detroit, Dallas and New Orleans.
So assuming the Spurs are just one of Harris’ suitors, why would he pick them? The answer to that question matters.
From a purely on-court perspective, pursuing Harris makes sense. He has been divisive for years with fans due to the enormous contract he signed, but he was a productive player and could still help many teams as a rotation piece going forward. He would offer the Spurs shooting, positional versatility and size in the frontcourt next to Jeremy Sochan and Victor Wembanyama as they develop. He’s clearly not a long term piece, as he turns 32 years old soon, but for a season or two he would be valuable. At some point, teams just need to sign good players, and Harris is talented and would be a good fit in San Antonio.
The concern with any proven player like Harris is less about his talent and more about whether he’d join the Spurs for the right reasons. Harris was heavily criticized in Philadelphia for being passive, so if he’s just looking for one last big payday and to avoid the pressure that comes with playing for a contending team, San Antonio could be getting a complacent veteran who’s just along for the ride instead of a committed, hard-working culture-setter. If Harris’ mindset and goals match the Spurs’ he could be valuable on the court. If they don’t, some free agents might fit better.

I don't see it from a disappearing at times pov, assuming the money were to be agreeable for both sides. But we've had worse signings. We can't plug all the holes in one off season, it's just here's hoping that our standards are now better than 'we've had worse' lol

Always liked Harris in Detroit but that seems like 20 years ago. If Boban likes him, I do.
His game is solid but he is not the type of player that makes others better.
If he plays like a Rudy Gay type role while he was with us (Starts occasionally, bench role mostly) I would be fine.

Re: SPURS 2024 DRAFT THREAD
Kevin O'Connor was on Krysten Peek's podcast and flat out said how it's funny that it's out there somehow that 'the Spurs love Risacher! The Spurs love Risacher!' and yet we do not leak anything, ever.
We did scout him plenty before any draft order was even set. But that's no indication of whether we fell in love with what we saw.
To trade both lotto picks to select him 1st to ensure we get him is unwise, unless we believe him to be the best player and worthy of paying another guy another top contract.
I think Hawks want us to want him more than we want him so as to hand over our picks. KOC pointed out how teams picking 1 2 3 would ideally like to trade back to still get their guy. Well we're essentially blessed to be in that position already.
There's talk of a potential issue of bringing in yet another couple of rookies and there being a glut of youth, especially if we draft two guards.
But I have no trouble addressing the 3 via trade of say Keldon and Branham and whichever sweetener to get experience at the spot. You only have a glut until you don't. And dangling good contract and upside after having drafted stronger two way upside gives cap and trade flexibility.
As to us parting with any unprotected picks for a Hawks guard - no please no.
The value of unprotected picks in stronger drafts goes beyond just a given draft slot. Their cumulative value becomes that much stronger in moving up and targeting my favourite, Traore. Feel free to slot in whichever player you like best.
Point being, those picks have bigger value in such an attempt than a Keldon/Branham/sweetener could, for instance. In other words, the player cost would be higher if there were lower picks to include in a trade, and some teams could value higher picks and cap space more like we did in getting the '25-'27 picks from Atl.
While the current contracts seem huge and they will in time be smaller than the max contracts coming after them, I would still prefer to give a potential future max to Traore than to now absorb a longer contract of whoever. Traore is a pure PG, is big, creates his own shot, finds team mates well, runs a team well, takes clutch 3s, and defends. This is the type of prospect you pay top current dollar for, not ones who have holes in their games to compensate for, attitude included.
I like the Yahoo sports group, even as (especially after) Fischer made me eat crow for first breaking the upcoming Murray trade. It's a good group of well informed, hard working coverage. Fan of Peek too and glad her platform is growing.
I hope we keep those unprotected picks in our control. Their value only grows with each attempt to pry them from our hands, and with each upcoming prospect also rising in the upcoming drafts.
If we draft any two of Castle, Risacher, Carter, Williams, Salaun, (maybe Topic at 8, maybe), we will have upgraded our talent a lot and will position ourselves well to make moves to bolster the roster to better compete now as well as raise the floor and ceiling of our future. Keep the picks unless it's a godfather offer for a target we absolutely want, again, that's Traore lol

I'm with you Grey. We worked soo hard to get those picks I would be pissed if we just gave them away for something thats not a no brainer or an almost sure thing.
Its just more lazy reporting.
Risacher is French so of course reporters think we want to draft him at all costs. I'm surprised there hasn't been a rumor circulating about us trading for Rudy Gobert yet.
You really do have a crush on Traore lol!

I would prefer something better at 8 than Carter or Castle. I don't hate them as prospects but a 6.2" combo guard or a 6.6" guard who can't shoot is something I would prefer to avoid at this stage as we have too many non-shooters on the roster as it is.

Harris is the worse type of veteran the Spurs could pick up. Non-interested at times and unlikely to be a suitable role model for the youngsters. I would prefer Chris Paul as even though I dislike him with a passion, no one ever called him uninterested.

Had no interest in his prime.
These Harris rumors has to be Philly trying to inflate his value.
Philly want BI & it looks like they trying to get NO's to take Harris. I think if they did that, I'd look to follow a smarter team.
