Lakers fan, but 40-0 in the past doesn't really mean anything as far as this series goes. When the announcers put up statistics like that, that's when it jinxes a team.

"Kobe Bryant has made 73 consecutive free throws....CLANK!"

Dont think so. 40-0 no matter what is NOT a good stat to go against.

So we shouldn't even bother to show up? I MEAN LOOK 40-0!!!! OMG

Jeez... Sorry to tell you but I am not going to give up on my team over some stupid stat that you think it is important.

from an outsiders(fans) prospective, 40-0 certainly does look intimidating. it does mentally favor the team that is up 1-0.

but do you think phil jackson is preaching that? "hey boys, teams are 40-0 when up 1-0 in the wcf, so lets just got party until the ECF is over" -phil jackson.

do you think pop is saying "were ****ed, lets just go party cause we have no chance cause were down 1-0."

to me thats a terrible argument to use when picking a team to win this series.

No but i mean as a betting man, and as a person that looks at stats and realizes there no accident can see that.

I even found something similar to that the team winning game 1 like 75 % of the time wins the series. Thats a huge stat as well.

Um...

03... Dallas... lost game 1... later Championship

05... Denver... lost game 1... Later Championship

07... Denver....lost game 1... Later Championship

08... New Orleans.. lost game 1.. win series

08... Los Angeles... lost game 1... ???

It isn't a huge stat...

but it is a stat, a number, meaningless to this series until we have a winner.

Well yea cuz the series are from every round every playoff series for years you named a few examples.

But it's hard to read your explanation are you saying the nuggets went to the championship 2 years in the 200's??? I dont reemmber the nuggets EVER making it. So can you clarify that for me?

We played the Nuggets in 05,07... lost the first game of the series and later on won the Championship that year. It is a meaningless stat.

You guys should be fine as long as the Spurs keep dumping it to Duncan. Gasol is one of the worst post defenders in the League. duncan should be eating him up in every game.

Ok, so, he's 2-0 in series after leading 1-0. I wouldn't run to Vegas and bet your house.

That's ridiculous. Even after you're proven wrong, you still try to find a way to make that stat no big deal.

Does it really mean anything? Not that much. Previous series have nothing to do with this one. But you sound bitter as hell.

Man, that 2nd half was rough. Defense was pretty damn good (well, except for when Bowen came out and Kobe had his way with Ime), but the offense sucked. We totally went away from what had got us our lead (sharing the ball, getting in the paint, etc.) and just started throwing up 3's and contested 2's, even though no one was making them.

It's not the end of the world, and I still like our chances in Game 2. But it's a shame that we weren't able to win that one...a lost opportunity for sure.

Thats the thing phil jackson would rather have tim duncan beat us then have tony parker and manu ginobli go off on a tangent. They will probably do the exact same thing next game.
