Just ignore his 3-point shooting for now, ok? But hey, we had to with DJ for some years as well.

So what happens if Charlotte's pick is 1-16? What do we get then?

I think the subsequent protections come over with the deal: so each of the two years after it's top-14 protected, and in the fourth year it converts to a couple of seconds.

But Charlotte is super keen on making the playoffs so the chances of them not doing so in the next three years are slim.

But it's all a game of crystal ball at this point.

The other three picks are unprotected.

None of them are in 2023 :waaa:

So we got a 14% chance......

It's just the first step. We don't know which other deals will get which other assets. But for now, we have our own shot at least:

Gotta be honest. When I was looking at our roster and the free agent pool this year I was pretty disappointed at prospects of getting better anytime soon.

Now I'm not soo pissed off about the draft.

This is way more exciting even if it doesn't work

For so long a lot of fans were like, stop the middle of the road, pick a lane.

Well we have. We may well be the youngest team in the league now.

I think we will become even more egalitarian than last season now. We needed someone to be the go-to guy but with DJ and Lonnie (likely) now gone, the top two usage (and Klutch) guys makes room for less ball dominant players. Sometimes we needed it; many others we didn't. I do love that we quickly identified the players we could go forward with and made the hard but necessary choices forward - make no mistake, forward is the direction rather than spinning wheels.

A couple of interesting tweets:

Don's not broken up about this. He's in the know.

My sense from this guy's previous tweets is that he gets some info as well. Whether or not DJ would have re-signed is one thing; whether we thought it would be worth it is another.

I will admit the first time I've heard about the trade rumor a few days ago, I initially treated the rumor as when the time TP was mentioned in the trade rumors back in 2011. At the time, the Spurs later admitted they were simply testing TP's market value instead. Back to DJM, when the smoke raged into the fire, that's when I started to realize these rumors are not just true, but came into fruition today.

The deal struck makes sense for both teams. The Spurs made the decision to trade DJM at his best market value. Plus with him being the "oldest" of the Spurs, they felt it was best to move on from him and turn the page to continue rebuilding the team. For the Hawks, it was about adding another scorer, defender, and creator. A welcoming addition to the Hawks. Great deal for both teams. Good luck to DJM as a Hawk as he goes to a team who will welcome him and his abilities. The Spurs get a solid ransom here. 3 future picks, future cap space, and the opportunity to continue to rebuild the team with what they have on the roster.

Well then...

I think the maximum percentage increase would make the extension before October still quite low for DJ. I don't fault him for wanting the max he's eligible for. There's no indication he'd re-sign with us as UFA, and I like that 1. we identified who we want to pay over $200M to (or not) and 2. we learned from the past and just made a clean break. Very solid decisions.

Oh, aaaand this:

First time posting in ages, but always lurking

Very happy with the deal, ultimately, from DW and DJM, we got 5 1sts.

All about the tank now, about time we pick a direction. The young core, a whole year under their belt of development, plus whoever we draft. Im more excited about this, then just being a treadmill team.

No disrespect to Spurs fans here but I want to see if Dejounte Murray is a star without Pop before saying both teams did great. I have little doubt the Spurs can draft well with the picks.

We must have some other moves in mind. We can't have just Jakob and Zach at the 5.

Well, as they say, **** or get off the pot. I'm also in the camp that likes this deal. I like Dejounte and I'll miss him, and I hope he can be successful with the Hawks, but I'll gladly take these picks. It feels like this team has resisted the urge to bottom out for so long post-Kawhi, that it feels almost slightly surreal to see the tethers of whatever notional forces that prevented this team from committing to a full rebuild in earnest finally be severed.

The timing feels right to me in terms of the current landscape of the western conference, the perceived quality of the upcoming draft classes, and the value of Murray as an asset. Here's to moving forward.

The way that system is set up, you're going to be losing for the next 15 years! The problem is bigger than basketbal

Not sure if he's talking about the Spurs system or the NBA system in general but honestly, who TF cares? He's gone and we are better off because of it.

I never saw anyone or anything holding him back here so if he does hold some kind of grudge he can think about it all he wants while he's counting his money...

Just shows he was never a 'Spurs guy'.

I hope Keldon doesn't follow the same path.

Johnson doesn't seem to have as much of an entitled attitude as Murray. He also seems very appreciative and humbled by his Olympic team experience with Pop so we'll see.

Hopefully the Klutch asshats aren't in his head too much. His contract was actually pretty fair for both sides.
