He was only a Spur for two years - and was a pain pretty much throughout his tenure - but I'm a big fan of Dennis Rodman. I wished him and Robinson could've won a ring together.

This is one of my all-time favorite plays with both of them:

Very good point about David being unable to win without Duncan.

88-89 SAS 21-61
89-90 SAS 56-26

That 55 win turn around in his rookie year says NOTHING about his ability to win. Nor the fact that the Spurs remained above .500 his entire tenure with them, until the 96-97 season when he played only 6 games and we dropped to 20-62.

All 10 All-Star games he was voted to, the MVP, the ROY, the DPOY, the collection of All-NBA teams, Scoring Title., etc.... all because he was overrated.

*sigh*

The Admiral was a beast. ROY, Scoring title, MVP, DPOY, NBA title X2, Gold Medal. Can't get much better than that.

Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan and David Robinson. A franchise rarely sees this type of guys (heart, intelligence, spirit, determination...etc), let alone 3 in one team at one point.

Tony Parker. It was a difficult start for him in San Antonio under Popovich, but he improved on every level to prove a lot of people wrong. Respect.

And these guys looked decent in sas colors: Big dog Robinson, Derek Anderson (until that foul by Howard in the playoffs, he was never the same) and Steph Jackson ;but they will never be fav players of mine.

I do not inculde GG because I never saw him play; would be bc of his 'legacy'...

I guess I can post this here.

I was watching the 04-05 'ship dvd the other day and I thought Bones and Big Shot Bob deserved a little more love in this topic. Then again, I realised the franchise truely has been blessed with great characters or were they deliberately selected ? From Gervin, Robinson, Elliot, Johnson and Duncan to Barry, Horry, Ginobili, Parker and Bowen. I refused to imagine life in the post Duncan, Ginobili and Popovich era ...

Other things that I remembered while watching and irrelevant today...but what the hell:
- That year Manu really earned a lot of respect around the NBA and the fans.
- Brent Barry had a magnificant game in each series, it was good to see him (and his enormous basketball iq) in black and silver again.
- Horry used all of his remaining life energy to win San Antonio game 5 and then he quietly disappeared from the main stage.
- I still can't stand Beno Udrih.
- We had Nazr and Rasho next to Duncan and it was difficult the entire season to make it work.
- A GREAT season...

A bit off topic, sorry for that!

What no love for the A-Train ? Come on guys please tell me you know something about Artis Gilmore ? What about Gene Banks ? Mike Mitchell ? The guy was a Laker killer during the battles I remember in the mid to late 80's.

OK.......what about Billy Paultz ?

All I see here is the new generation, I'm not a Spur fan but those guys are guys that I respected to the utmost.

To be fair the 1st championship came in 1999 and it makes sense to have the champs as favourite players.

Yeah we had Brickowski first, got him from SuperSonics in 86-87 as a free agent. Then traded him along with Peter Gudmundsson and a 1st round pick (Greg "Cadillac" Anderson) and a 1990 2nd round pick (Sean Higgins) to Spurs for Mychal Thompson and got rings off it !

Before my time. I go back as far as Robinson's rookie year.

I like the iceman because of his mother's window tint commercials.

Didn't know Brick was a Laker. I recall him as a Spur and a Buck, then a Bull in the mid to late 90's.

I don't know if it's so much an issue of not knowing the old guys as much as it is enjoying the guys that racked up the W's for us.

And really, the only guy mentioned that is on the Legendary status of Duncan and Robinson would be Gilmore, and he gave his best years to Chicago. Paultz was a great for us as well, but I think I'd take Johnny Moore just as soon as I'd take him.

You gotta love the furosious manner in which Manu takes it too the whole. How many poster dunks has he put on defenders. Plus he's a leftie that has to count for something.
