Not sure it is about a loophole, we still are in timw to cut some costs and we talk about 6 figures htats nothing in the nba. We will be under in time for sure.

I can see only 3 options :
1 - Paul accept to lower his salary a little more
2 - Castle sign for a little less than expected (usualy, rookies sign for 120% of the rookie scale, but we see this summer Pacome Dadiet sign for only 80% to ease the Knicks salary cap situation)
3 - On more player will move before august and the last limit to cut Champagnie.
But as i say, maybee there is some salary cap subtility i don't know and a 4th options exist.

Guess we plan on sucking ass again........
We were lucky as heck to get Wemby, are we pressing our luck to tank for Cooper Flagg now?

There's still a chance to bring him back. We have some money but have to shuffle the roster a bit.

Will Barlow make the Spurs a playoff-caliber team?

No, but he has more potential than both of these bums put together.....

I'm not saying Barlow is the missing piece or anything. He is just plain better than Mamu and Bassey. Unless he has some bad practice or personal habits that the Spurs know that we dont, I dont understand bringing these guys back instead.

Well as I said we don't yet know the final roster construction. Both Mamu and Bassey agreed to minimum one-year deals. Dom may be negotiating for a bigger/longer contract or seeing if he could find one elsewhere. It's clear based on our trade/FA acquisitions, and now these signings, that 2025 cap space is a target.
But if we do not retain Dom, much as I like him, his fit next to Wemby is clunky because he can't operate out of the paint. Mamu spreads the floor with 3s and has looked good alongside Wemby.
Bassey and Mamu are bigger guys who can take more of a beating.
Dom is a talented big, but he gets moved out of position and he does not spread the floor. He's a tweener whose hustle and BBIQ help him, but whose game limited to within 15 feet of the basket does not.
You can see why we went this direction whether or not we eventually retain Dom. He has a nice game but it is limited. Maybe he is looking for a bigger role elsewhere but it is not easy putting in a thinner not floor spacing big in more. Hope we work things out. Wish him the best.

Meh, Im not going to argue about it. i could write 10 paragraphs with examples about how I think Barlow is better than both of them. If the team wants to go that way thats fine but I dont have to agree with them. I still think its a waste
I think it might be as simple as these guys accepted vet minimum and Barlow wouldnt

Re: SPURS 2024 OFF-SEASON INTEREST, TRADE, AND FA RUMOURS THREAD
Would the Spirs have any interest in trading for Jerami Grant? From an outsiders view, he seems like he'd be an ideal fit next to Wemby.
21pt/night scorer, good 3pt shooter to help with spacing veteran who won't try to take over the leadership role.
Any deal would have to wait till Sept when Barnes contract can included.

I don't think so. His contract is a killer and it looks like we are planning another tank season....

No we're not

What's the measurable difference between Grant and Barnes? Like enough to justify the huge contract difference? Like gump said, Grant's is a killer contract both in terms annual and length. We're carefully managing cap space for 2025 maneuverability and a 30 year old on a 5-year increasing contract does not fit our timeline in both money and age. That's not the money we want for a non-core player.
Also, he's with Klutch and we've gone the way of decreasing players from them down to one now I think.

Re: SPURS 2024 OFF-SEASON INTEREST, TRADE, AND FA RUMOURS THREAD
I had assumed that bringing in Paul and Barnes was moving away from tanking.
Regarding Grant, I get it he doesn't fit with the tank plan, but I think you're selling him very short.
He has the 50th highest contract in the league, and his production is as good or better than many bigger name players. In fact, he's a 40+% three point shooter getting over 20 pts per game.
Ironically, his biggest deficiency is his rebounding, which wasn't even mentioned.

Its just as simple as Grant's contract for me. I honestly dont think he is some game changing type player that I could justify spending that much money on and also, why would we want to help out Portland by giving them picks? (which is im sure what they want.)
The Klutch thing Grey mentioned is also a factor as far as the Spurs are concerned IMO. Also, Portland is in a slightly similar trajectory as we are with a young team trying to get into the playoffs? Why would we want Grant if Portland doesn't seem to want him themselves?
IMO Paul is a shell of the player he was that never won anything anyway so we might get 50 games out of him if we are lucky and if we were fortunate enough to get to the play-in he would probably be hurt and miss it.
Barnes is also old and his game has dropped off a cliff in the last year.
Thats not getting us into a playoffs unless Wemby carries the team on his back himself
