There wasn’t a team on the board I’d rather see this #1 go to. Huge congrats to you Spurs fans, really hope Victor keeps Pops around a few more years.
156-1 Celtics are frauds when pressure is put on them. They would have been toast if Luka was not stupid enough to foul himself out. Enjoy this ONE finals win. There will never be another with the Js and the Celtics cant afford stacked team.
Congrats Spurs fans!
I'm glad you guys landed Wemby over the other options. He will succeed with a historically great organization.

San Antonio was easily the best home for Wemby. Good luck with him, hope to see you guys back up there in the West!

Re: 2023 NBA Draft: San Antonio Spurs Edition
Congrats on getting the number 1, but how about this offer from my nets:
Cam thomas, Cam Johnson(S/t), 2 of the phoenix future frps, two swaps of our own frps, and one of Royce Oneal/DFS for this year's #1.
The reality is the spurs need more than 1 guy, and even if wemby pans out thats all he will be. The advantages for the spurs are you get an untapped microwave scorer in Thomas(he could average 25 ppg in this league if given the right situation), a polished 3 pt sniper in his prime in CamJohnson, the *unprotected* frps which could hit big, and then one quality rotation wing.
Want to keep Clax and Mikal of course because those would be two foundational pieces with wemby. but everyone else is on the table....

Spurs wouldn't go for that in a million years. I would personally burn the stadium down if they even thought about it.
Not to mention Wemby will make the franchise millions without ever playing a game with merchandise and ticket sales. There is no way.
Appreciate the effort though and I agree Wemby is 1 guy but that 1 guy makes us relevant again with an assload of cap space.
Also, why would we take a chance on a future pick hitting big when we already have the biggest hit pick in a decade?
We have plenty of picks and plenty of cap space to build so all these over-priced borderline bench guys aren't interesting at all.
I know many people didn't watch us play much this year but we already have a potential nice group of players with Sochan, Vassell and maybe Keldon Johnson. Also Branham and Wesley look more than useful and all will look even better around Wembanyama.

Re: 2023 NBA Draft: San Antonio Spurs Edition
Going to be a lot of fun next season for sure -- Would love to see another alamodome game vs like the Warriors or Suns or something.
Agreed. Most people don't watch the team at all outside of regular followers and don't know that this team does have a handful of quality players, and some who are quite talented on both ends -- top 12-15 player types? Probably not, but still players that you'd want on a future legit playoff team.
I like Wesley and Branham quite a bit, as well. Keldon Johnson I'm not sure if he'll stick around long-term but he is a good player -- just think this team still will need an ace-style traditional wing to pair with Wemby, and one of Vassell/Johnson will probably go to get that other guy.
Of course still need 1-2 higher-level guys to pair with Wemby longer-term.. and Vassell probably is one of them along with Sochan.

Re: 2023 NBA Draft: San Antonio Spurs Edition
Big thanks to Baph for starting this thread. I was so superstitious about Wemby making his way to us that I avoided all draft / Wemby / prospects talk in case it took some wind away from pushing the ping pong balls our way
It worked!
And now, here's where we stand with our picks in this draft:

Congrats to the Spurs on winning the #1 draft pick in the 2023 NBA Lottery. All they have to do now is draft VY and develop him under the tutelage of Pop and the rest will be history.
