He's back!!! WOOHOO!!

Comparing a trade of a rotation player and a 1st round pick for Kurt Thomas to virtually NOTHING for Pau Gasol? Are you serious?

From the sound of it, San Antonio wanted Brent Barry so bad that they were willing to break the rules to get him back in a San Antonio uniform.

Barry chose to sign with the San Antonio Spurs over the Suns, as well as interested parties Boston, Dallas and Houston on Tuesday, ending a week long debate as to where the 36-year-old guard would play.

However, the Spurs might have violated an NBA policy in order to bring back the 3-point sharpshooter after acknowledging their interest in returning Barry to their roster.

NBA rules mandate that they wait until March 21 to do so.

"We've expressed our interest to Brent about wanting to bring him back," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich told the Express-News after their Wednesday practice session.

The Express News also cited Tony Parker as a violator of the NBA rule.

Asked if he had reached out to Barry, Parker responded emphatically. "Of course," Parker said, "of course, of course. I have no idea (what he is going to do), but I hope he'll be back."

if the Express news is correct, Barry will be ineligible for the postseason roster.

That's some stupid reporting right there. What's against the rules is having a deal in place, not letting the guy know you're interested!

Btw, that link doesn't take you to the article you posted, so who knows what kind of garbage it is.

Yeah, when I read that I was kind of thinking that was wrong, but wasn't sure enough of the rule.

Seriously guys, I read on the CNN site an article that Barry was still choosing between Suns and Spurs (obviously he has chosen for the Spurs), but there were some readers comments that Barry won't be allowed to play in the post seasons since he will only be allowed to sign after March 1 (I think) and players signed after March 1 are not allowed to participate in the play offs.

Is there any truth in this ??

No, they have to be waived by March 1st to be playoff eligible. Barry has to wait 30 days to sign with us, because it's the team he was traded from.

If a team trades a player and the player is subsequently waived by the assignee team, the assignor team will not be permitted to sign the player to a new contract (or claim him off of waivers) until at least 30 days have passed following the date the trade was made (or 20 days for trades that occur during the off-season).

That's part of it, anyway.

Sweet, so Barry can use the 30 days to heal up that calf of his then be ready for some finals 3 point barrages.

Welcome back Bones!

Well, Elson plus a first round pick, but not too bad.

The whole deal was planned from the beginning. I coached Brent Barry to pretend to be interested in other teams and string them along, so we wouldn't have a dumb Stackhouse situation on our hands. Spurs > Mavs yet again.

^ You're right. From the Suns board:

Arles wrote:enigmatics is right. This shouldn't be a surprise - this was setup over a month ago (as soon as Barry got hurt). Both Pop and Parker clearly violated rules by contacting Barry before the 30-day rule, but Stern won't enforce it. He "must" enforce the bench-leaving rule, but he doesn't have to enforce the rules for things like officials gambling (gave 5-10 a free pass this summer) and tampering with the 30-day rule.

Man, PHX fans just don't quit, do they?

I remember when the fans here in San Antonio always thought there was a conspiracy by David Stern to keep a small market team like the Spurs out of the Finals (before that '99 year), man, how things have changed, now it's PHX turn to believe in conspiracy theories..
