This is my fault. The bad scoring streak coincides with around the time I stopped posting the game summaries. I got sick for about three weeks around the time that the Spurs were out for Covid and since have had to catch up with other non-RealGM things through a mental fog that has drastically decreased my ability to concentrate. I will remedy the imbalance and energy shift post haste! Fandom  :D

Good for you, Cam! And good for us. Probably a KBD fill in. Really good 3 and FT shooter. Good size, runs the floor well.

It's official!

Read on Twitter

The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have signed center Gorgui Dieng. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not announced.

A nine-year NBA veteran, Dieng holds career averages of 7.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 21.8 minutes in 537 total games played. Selected in the first round of the 2013 NBA Draft (21st overall) by the Utah Jazz, he was dealt to the Timberwolves on draft night and spent his first six-plus seasons with Minnesota.

Dieng will wear No. 7 for the Silver and Black. The Spurs roster now stands at 17 players.

He's previously worn numbers 14 and 5 so new number with us.

Getting to know Gorgui!

Are a Spurs lifer is born!

It's tricky to get context without hearing the questions, and the audio quality is poor, but it sounds like Gorgui is recalling Spurs brass (RC?) visiting his homeland or contributing to the schools there and so that has always stayed with him and now he has a chance to contribute to the team that contributed to his community. I'd love to hear more about this:

EDIT to add: Spurs made some stealth moves in acquiring Gorgui. Full credit where it's due!

Here's that long-established connection with the Spurs Gorgui mentioned in the interview above. Amazing! Give and you never know what seeds will be sown years later:

And of course Pop reached an incredible milestone - 1300 wins and counting for the GOAT!

As that comes after a four-game losing streak, it hearkens back to Pop's first won game as Spurs Head Coach, also breaking the same streak:

Oh really?!

Brilliant. NBA schedules eight games in 11 nights, including two back-to-backs, BOTH of which required travel. This is in the midst of a schedule of NO MORE than ONE day off between games in the final 60 days of the season and yet:

This on the heels of our previously resting players and the NBA "understanding"!:

Then there's this gem, which predates pandemic scheduling circumstances:

So to recap: we previously rested two players on the road, were in contact with the league about it, they were ok with it.

Utah Jazz JUST rested Gobert, Conley - two All Stars! - in a road game and nothing.

We rest three players who absolutely need it and despite previously understanding, despite a NBA worst schedule, there's a fine. Brilliant. Absolutely **** brilliant.

p.s.

Right. Ok. So we should just lie and come up with phantom one-day injury / tweaks like other unscrupulous teams do? Like the league is encouraging lying or pay a fine during an absolutely brutal schedule. Or play Patty 1 minute next time. Ok.

I have to say, Pop is very understanding about it, and disciplined in not mentioning the league's scheduling as a necessity for resting our players. That said, he sent a clear message that we'll do right by our players regardless of fines:

EDIT to add: Pop actually ended the above quote with, "... and we're just going to differ on it." Important nuance to the context of the answer.

Here's the interview:

League makes no sense with these fines. The entire league is resting players and we don't play any national TV games anyway so who cares?
Where does that 25k go anyway? To design another City Edition jersey?

Uuuuuum, ok...? Patty got an arm shove to the back and fell forward under our basket. No call. There should have been one. It would have meant Patty wouldn't have taken matters into his own hands. He shouldn't have, yes, but the right call would have alleviated the heat from the situation. True, Patty then went back and bumped into the guy who then took exception to the retaliation and headbutted Patty.

And it sounds like Patty will end up paying as much if not more than the suspended guy because for him it's a percentage of earnings.

EDIT to add: lol yep! Let's just put this behind us and move on...

I (almost) never like it when other teams try to suck the marrow that is our culture - trying to bring in what we develop rather than work to develop a culture from the ground up themselves (some have left in rather murky circumstances, in which case, bye!). Since BB hasn't coached at the pro level I'm not too concerned, though it's not without precedent:
