Oof no wonder our doctors were looking at his medical report. Not sure how I feel about this but trust staff to make the right decision.

He's young but you have make sure he's healing right and it won't impact his play. Feels like he may slip to 8 for us. Not sure I'd take him at 4 unless we're confident about what we see in the report.

No way at 4. Maybe at 8 but if Dillingham or Sheppard are at 8 I take them instead.

I'm fine with drafting a PG at either spot but with four picks in next year's draft, I'm gunning for Traore. Kid's a perfect fit for us. Perfect.

Sounds like we're more likely to make some trades with at least one of this year's picks

More mocks are having Salaun at 8 for us but I'm really liking Diadet and hope we maneuver to draft him. Feels too high for lotto but like he won't be there by the time we make our second round picks.

Whenever I do a mock draft I end up with Salaun, either at 4 or 8 and Diadet in the second round. Now this might just be my bias but it seems like Diadet might go late 1st/early second before our pick. I want at least one of them as it seems the prototype we need.

My problem with the US prospects is that they all seem to lack height at the SF and I want at least a couple of 6.8 guys at the wing. I am sick of playing undersized players who can't defend their positions.

This would be totally out of character for us but I like the idea of being aggressive.

I don't see how we dont take Topic with one of our picks if he's available. Neither of the Kentucky kids impresses me at all but that's just my opinion I guess. If we are trying to package both picks for #1 then obviously Topic is out which is also fine by me. IMO we don't necessarily need a true PG, just someone who can get us into an offense when the game slows down. (Just please keep Sochan away from doing it)

I still love Sallis at #35.

I know nothing of Traore but I feel the Spurs need to show improvement this year and I want he picks/trades to put the Spurs in better position to achieve that. My expectation is between 35-40 wins in the coming season.

At the end of the coming season, the Spurs need to evaluate how much they need to achieve the aim of being a legitimate 5-8 team in the West at the end of year 3.

While I absolutely would not mind Topic at 8, there is just to much risk to take him at 4 with an injury. Without the injury I could be sold on taking Topic at 4, with the injury, I think we need to take someone who can contribute from Day 1, even if only from the bench.

Alas, Sallis has withdrawn to return to college.

If you put the Kentucky guys together you'd have a more two way player but STILL undersized. I think at least one if not both slip.

Klutch has been doing A LOT of work trying to hitch one of their guards to Wemby. Murray, Dilly, Young before he switched agencies... Each has simmered down over time.

As to Topic, it just depends on what we believe to be the long term prognosis for him medically. If we pass on him, it's for good reason. Wish him the best, but even if we drafted him I don't think he's our PG of the future.

That distinction belongs to one Nolan Traore in next year's draft. He's perfect for us.

That's why the unprotected picks must be so guarded. They have a lot of value to trade up. It's when we use those picks, the timing, is crucial, too. A package of a future unprotected and lotto picks in a great draft class carries more weight than in this one as we can get better assets. Best not use them for PGs that are flawed or on awfully expensive contracts. Traore is worth the wait. Look him up.

Aggressive, gump, aggressive!

https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/275978/Spurs-Looking-To-Compete-Now;-Open-To-Trading-Draft-Picks

I like what Wemby said about Pop's not skipping steps - we can still go up every one just adjust to how fast we go up them - paraphrasing this part but the gist stands.

Yes we should be more competitive. Yes we ought to explore and take advantage of great deals for our considerable assets. No I don't think we should blow the load of them on overblown contracts of/or flawed players.

It does help that *reportedly* many players want to play with Wemby. We should leverage the check out of that. But again, we stick to our growth principles and abide by the every step adage, even if we go up them faster.

It may also be a case of media stirring things to try to get us to rush and get caught in cap hell.

But part of not skipping steps of course is making sure we have sustained long term success and part of that too is making sure we have the assets and the cap to continue to do so.

Soon...

I dont know who in their right mind would have thought he had a 7 foot wingspan. I mentioned before I thought he looked small and wasn't 6'5". I'm not really concerned about that if he can run an offense and has a BBIQ above 0% like this year's roster.

I'm also not concerned if he cant defend like a superstar. No one on our team besides Wemby made much of of an effort to defend anything this season.

I'm more inclined to think we have enough assets (Picks and cap) to try to be competitive now. Use all the future assets starting next year to build for a sustained future.

I'm not saying we should get crazy and do something stupid but I am saying we need to be bold and not too conservative now. we cant have Wemby and 15 draft picks the next couple years.

He's actually pushing 6'7" in shoes (and neck lol) which means he has a negative wingspan.

I guess like with Dilly and Shep the measurables have to swing their way if there are clear disadvantages. Shep is at least super athletic and gets steals and hits 3s. Dilly can score. Topic can run a team. Put them together and you have a top level pick. But their deficiencies are glaring.

I'd be surprised if we picked any of them given the alternatives, not just in this draft, but also as you pointed out later, in terms of assets we can maximize to start winning sooner while solidifying strong long term foundations.
