If the spurs are so talented then why are their series going 7 games?

I commend the spurs for getting to the WCF and defending their title.....I am just wondering what took them so long.

The thing that I think is going to hurt the Spurs is that their offense seems to go cold in long spurts.....

The Lakers offense is non stop......it is going to take a 100 plus effort every game in order to stay in the series.......

The Spurs only had 1 series go to 7 games a team with an equal record to themselves in a Conference which is the toughest I've seen in my basketball viewing lifetime. Boston, on the other hand, went 7 games against the Atlanta Hawks and a revamped Cleveland team that we swept in the championship game last year.

I've seen so many posts about how 'hungery' the Lakers are. Guess what... everybody at this point is hungry. Hunger alone does not win a championship. Playoff basketball is a game of matchups and adjustments on top of smart basketball.

its going to come down to this. the first team to lose at home will lose the series. if teams take care of business at home, lakers will win the series due to homecourt advantage. the key for san antonio is to take 1 game at LA and steal homecourt advantage. and the key for lakers is to win first 2 games at home and steal one, just one, game at san antonio and take em out early.

the longer the series goes, the more it favors san antonio due to their experience. however, the age factor will be significant, lakers are one of the highest scoring teams in the league and they like to run (much like phoenix). the reason u guys were able to keep up with phx was becuz phx had no defense, so you guys could have a shootout with em and win. the lakers however have defense, tho not the best but definitely better than phx, and still have all the weapons to score as much as, if not more, than phx.

good luck to both teams. my prediction: no teams lose at home and lakers win in 7 games.

Man i tell ya what, arguing with a Lakers fan is like trying to coax a scared barking dog from under a hot radiator.

BTW that's not aimed at some of the good laker fans. Like the poster above.

oh why thank you. spurs have always been a safe choice for me in winning the championship if the lakers don't win it. if lakers don't win a championship, i wouldn't mind the spurs winning it to keep it in the western conference. as long as boston doesnt win...im all good.

The key for the spurs is pretty much what Smith said, you have to concentrate how on how you got the lead and the positives you did in the first half/half of 3rd quarter so you take those positives into game 2. (wich were parkers penetration at will, and maintaining the tempo of the game)

Duncan was just incredible yesterday with a great all around game, the lakers could not stop him 1 on 1, but they minimized the other guys like finley.

Ginoibili had a crappy game but the spurs were right there obviously, he said it didnt have to do with his finger, more about his ankle but didnt want to go into it.

Also, it was a spurs tempo throughout the game and the lakers only scored in the 80s which the spurs wanted, but that drought killed them (have any of you find out the problem?)

I think the 'psychological hit' about losing game 1 in which you had a lead is overblown. People said the same about about 04 pistons losing game 2 of the finals.

The key for the spurs will be to regroup and realize it only counts as 1 game in a series and move on, and they will most likely come back focused and ready to go, but like popovich said 'it hurt like he double hockey sticks'

this is going to be a great series

Great analysis. I really enjoy your posts, magicfan. :)

This is a veteran squad and I know that they'll regroup. If anything, they're extremely upset with themselves right now and bring it next game for all 48 minutes, instead of just 30.

Props to your team , specially Timmy D .
He is a F.H.O.F who is and will be the best at his position .
Props to you guys for a game well played and I cant wait for game 2 .

thanks man i appreciate it, im so excited about this series, seeing the top 2 teams of the last decade going at it again. These two teams have combined for 7 western conference finals and 7 nba championships in the last 10 years, what more can you ask in a series...

Going in, I honestly didn't expect to win game 1. I thought the Lakers would get out to a fast start, build a big lead and let Pop pull his starters for most of the second half. Too many things working against us in that game for energy.

The sorry part is this is the worst thing that could happen. Instead of seeing the loss early and resting for game 2 to sell out on that one, we got teased into thinking we could pull it off. The Lakers started running and we couldn't keep up. No surprise. But we spent a lot of energy building that lead and trying to hang on till the end. Our starters like Manu and TP looked very worn out down the stretch after playing heavy minutes,

But that's no excuse, just the reality. We knew we had little time to rest because we let that series go 7. The Lakers took care of business and earned the rest. They earned the home court. And after coming back from 20 down, they earned that win.

No excuses, we have to find a way to win. Game 2 will be huge. 2-0 is not a lock for a vacation, but you don't want to test those odds if at all possible. Hopefully we get some breathing room going back home.

The Lakers stole Game 1. We were winning the entire game. We had the game in our grasp. I'm confident that we can take this series. I think New Orleans was the toughest team we played in the playoffs. They are better than the Lakers. We will win the series in 5 or 6. I know it.

The Lakers are the underdog. We are the phucking defending champs. We are the best team in the world until another team takes us out. This is the first even year in which we advanced past the second round. We are destined to repeat this year. Game 1 of the Spurs/Suns series. Game 7 of the Spurs/Hornets series.

History was against us and we got the monkey off our back. The Hornets are the toughest team we played in the past two playoffs. We won Game 7 because we have been there done that. We had the toughest road to the WCF.

There are Lakers fans who like to hype their team up because they beat Denver and Utah. So what? We phucking kill and pwn Denver and Utah. Just look at last year. We took out Denver in 5 and absolutely dominated Utah in 5.

The Lakers are not going to stop us. They are inexperienced and incapable of playing adequate defense. This is our year. There will always be next year for the Lakers.

what would be your definition of adequate defense, it seemed ok in game 1, and

aren't you doing the same thing?

And yet that defense was good enough to overcome a 20 point lead?

People are talking about the Spurs being tired.....there is also something to be said about the Lakers being rusty the way they are putting away opponents in the playoffs they have too many days between series.

anyway....should be a good game.
