Re: The Offseason Thread
As far as Free Agents go. Only 2 names I want.
Udonis Haslem. He'll fit in well next to Duncan. Problem is, it doesn't make us taller or bigger but he is the best fit next to Tim Duncan. I personally rather have us use most of our MLE money to sign Splitter.
If not a big man, I personally think Matt Barnes is someone we can get for cheap while having a huge impact on the team. In terms of fitting in with the system, I think Barnes is perfect. He's got more size than any of our perimeter guys at 6'8''. He can shoot the 3 ball really well. He's a tough defender. He only got minimum salary despite having solid seasons in Phoenix and this year in Orlando. I don't think it'll cost him more than 3 mil if he does want to come here.
So basically, I'm hoping we sign a big (Splitter) and add a SF (Barnes).
C Duncan / Splitter (off the bench for his rookie year) / Bonner
PF Blair (hopefully he adds a midrange shot) / McDyess
SF Barnes / Jefferson (hopefully there's value in his expiring contract)
SG Manu / George Hill (plays combo guard)
PG Tony P / George Hill
Draft: Don't know who to get but unless someone who the Spurs are really high on (like Blair) dropped to their lap again, I don't think the Spurs give consistent playing time to a rookie. So I really don't have any high hopes out of a rookie other than if we get Splitter.

Why not trade Tony Parker for a useful big and a wing player?
Sign Splitter to the full MLE.
Trade Richard Jefferson's expirer and a re-signed Bonner for Hinrich & Deng
Trade Pick 10 and 20 to get Wes Johnson
CT: Duncan/ Splitter/ Ma-ha-ma-nah!
PF: Blair/ Murphy/ McDyess
SF: Deng/ Johnson
SG: Ginobili/ Rush
PG: Hill/ Hinrich
One last hoorah!
Troy Murphy
Brandon Rush
Pick 10

Tony Parker
Malik Hairston
2011 1st rounder unprotected

Re: The Offseason Thread
Rasual Butler can be the spot up shooter we need!!!!
Maybe Kapono at least to have one 3point shooter on the team.
For the Big Man, well Bosh or Booz both can be perfect for the Spurs, but more realistic prospects can be Rasho or Drew Gooden, even Eddie "IWantAHamburger" Curry can be a good help in the C rotation

it's not just the loss to the suns, but it's also getting swept by utah and portland during the regular season. i think its time they add a superstar big man i'm not sure if they can get chris bosh, but i say the spurs go all out to get him. its time for duncan to play the d-rob role and slow pass the torch to chris bosh. robinson was still very effective when the spurs got tim duncan so im not saying duncan is finished. but i don't think the spurs can run their offense through him anymore. and i dont think you can run it through manu either. duncan can't guard the quick and finese power forwards anymore. the amare's, dirk, lamarcus aldridge. it's time to pass the torch fellas.

Re: The Offseason Thread
Who wouldn't want Chris Bosh?
If the idea is to go get a superstar, then why settle for Bosh? Go after Lebron. Fact is, we don't have the assets to make the deal work. Unless we have maximum capspace or Bosh is willing to settle for the MLE, Toronto will have leverage in the trade.
As far as getting guys like Butler or Kapono, the problem is that I think we need shooters who will actually be in the regular rotation. Guys like Butler and Kapono will only come in when we need shooters. These guys will play 10 minutes one game, zero the next. We need someone who will be in the regular rotation for every game giving us a solid 18-25 minutes.

Re: The Offseason Thread
In any case, I think it's safe to say that our championship window is now closed.
Unless we got some crazy deal getting a Superstar (Unlikely), the focus of our summer will be in getting younger and more athletic. Basically, we're going to start rebuilding with hope that we stay on a winning path (I don't mean titles). Honestly, I don't want to go through those rebuildings where we go 15-67 for the season. I don't think I can stand it.

Re: The Offseason Thread
I hope we don't trade Tony and certainly not for the aforementioned package of Troy Murphy and Brandon Rush. The thought of Murphy makes me cringe. He brings next to nothing defensively, has low IQ and is a loser. Rush is OK but maybe a bit overrated and I'm not a fan of his shot, he doesn't look like a knock-down spot-shooter to me.
Me not wanting to deal Tony has to do with my belief that there is no way we get equal value in return. Maybe our championship window is closed but Tony is still a championship PG and can hold his own against ANY other PG in this league. Unless you can find me a championship PG who is as good as Tony, I'm not moving him. For what he's done for this team, I wouldn't move him for Chris Paul even though you'll call me crazy. I'm just asking you to remember how a healthy TP can go against Chris Paul and outplay him and that's not an overstatement. Even though people continuously forget to mention Tony when talking about the best PGs in this league, he is a top 3 PG and has been that way probably since 2006. Jefferson, thus, becomes our best trade asset with his expiring; his bad season though probably negates the chances of dealing him during the summer so we'll probably have to keep him until the trade deadline. If we bring Splitter over I think we will have enough bigs (probably will add one more in the 2nd round of the draft) and will focus on drafting a scoring wing in the 1st round. As I have mentioned previously, I think we need to look for a player who can score the ball regardless of whether he is a 3-point shooter, a slasher or a post-up guy. Just look at Marcus Thornton from last year's draft who dropped to the 2nd round - I believe we can find a similar player with our 20th pick. Then, from the FA pool I like Raja Bell. Since we will obviously not bring Roger Mason back, Raja Bell can be his replacement, and also I'm not sure about Bogans, maybe he'll go too. He's been a journeyman so I have a hunch he leaves. That makes our rotation
Splitter/McDyess/2nd rounder
Duncan/Blair/Bonner
Jefferson/1st rounder
Manu/Bell
Tony/Hill/Temple
Oh, yes, sign Temple for next season, I am really impressed by how he's played in his limited minutes, he looks like a poor man's George Hill and could be a great backup.

Re: The Offseason Thread
We have two needs this summer, the biggest one being some size up front and the other one being depth on the wings. We should use the MLE to adress our need in the middle. Splitter should be our priority and if we can't convince him to come over Brendan Haywood should be our next target. If we can get one of those guys it'll be a sucessful summer. We can address our needs at SG/SF through the draft. Guys like Stanley Robinson, Paul George, James Anderson and Elliot Williams should all be available around our pick and they would all be solid fits on our team. Then we need to fill out our bench with some solid veteran min guys. If we could get Ronald Murry, Raja Bell and Ben Wallace that would be amazing. Murry would give us some scoring off the bench to replace Mason who I doubt will be back and Bell and Wallace give us some gritty dirty old school defensive role players.

Re: The Offseason Thread
We should go after Brendan Haywood. Ben Wallace had a decent year in Detroit and came cheap at $800K. He might be an option, though he is 35 and a liability offensively.
Kyle Korver would be worth a look, but I think he resigns with Utah. JJ Redick? Matt Barnes? Both would be great additions, but if Orl go on to win the chip their asking price goes up and the Magic do whatever they can to keep them there. Role players on title teams always get overpaid (Tyronn Lue anyone?).
I've liked Mike Miller's game for a while and think he'd be a great fit in SA.
Mason and Bogans can walk. RJ needs to go.
If we move Parker, which I'm not against if we get value in return, then we should look at signing Steve Blake to backup Hill.

Baron Davis / #8/ #26/ BJ mullens
for
Tony Parker / Dejuan Blair
Is that something Spurs fans would do? (I'm a Detroit fan, but I follow the Spurs a bit too.)
I'm kind of on the fence about it. If you guys trade Parker, it'd be to hand the PG position to Hill, which would make Davis unnecessary. And Blair has been very good this year.
The only thing that makes me think twice is the #8. If either Monroe or Wes Johnson was available there, they'd both be great fits on the Spurs imo.

I know it's just a rumor but the Spurs should try to flip Parker plus 1st for Rudy Gay S&T. I'm thinking somewhere around 5 years/60 mil.
Hill, Blake/Ridnour(mle)
Manu, Hairston
Gay, RJ
Dyess, Blair
Duncan, Splitter
Pop loves those 9 deep rotations...
