With the 20th pick in 2010 Draft, the Spurs select...

SG James Anderson from Oklahoma.
Don't know what to think yet. He is the best shooter available and I guess that is a huge need of ours. My guys (Orton, Whiteside, James, Ebanks) are all still available at this pick but with them having potential on this team more because of position and defensive potential, I understand that they might not be able to help us immediately the way James Anderson can with his shooting.
I'm not loving it, but I don't exactly hate it either.

I think its a good pick, Anderson's a great shooter and a solid all around scorer. He's going to give us another capable wing player behind Manu and RJ. Really there was no one else left that I wanted so I like this pick.

Yeah, I mean outside of Babbitt (who I was hoping fall to 20th before taken 16th), guys like Ebanks or James or Pondexter are more projects than anything else because their potential is on the defensive end and they're not gonna come in their first year and just dominate defensively. It'll have to wait 2 or 3 years. Guys like Hairston will most likely be a better defensive player in their rookie years. Anderson atleast is someone who will contribute from the get go.
those ESPN guys are certainly loving it thou. They're calling it a steal and everything. I'm not that high yet, but agree he'll bring more impact to the team. Finding a defensive minded SF (like Bogans) was probably easier if we're only armed with LLE or Veteran Minimums assuming we use the MLE for Splitter. This way, we have a chance to be 10 deep.
Anderson might actually start at SG with Manu coming off the bench because our starting unit needs shooting on the floor. Plus, Manu and Parker usually don't start games together.

Yep Anderson could potentially start for us and I really wouldn't mind that. Our starting unit lacks a lights out shooter to create room for Tony and TD.
There's still alot of talent on the board right now. Hopefully we can pick up someone valuable with our next pick.

Word is there were some medical red flags around Alabi. I like the Ryan Richards pick, skilled big man with a lot of potential and a great NBA body.

I think it's a really good pick. Spurs knows that they can add some skills to this player (BK IQ, ball handling, passes) and they will sure take advantage of his shooting.
Kind of what they are doing with George Hill, shooter, not much of a point guard, but playing with Manu as the playmaker it's just free basketball leasons..
With this pick, i think there's no doubt Splitter is coming!!
RC is probably reading this forum cause is making my roster:
TP/Hill
Manu/20# Anderson
Jefferson/Hairston
Duncan/Blair
Splitter/Dice

Alabi in the 50# pick to Mavericks..

Word is he`s going to the Raptors.
*Edit its offical Dallas is trading Alabi to the Raptors. The reason he fell so far is because of some heart issues.

I agree that right now it's very much looking like we take Splitter. I would've had doubts if the Spurs drafted a big. Means that negotiations aren't going well so far.
With the way things are looking, I really don't think the Spurs are going to trade Parker or Jefferson this offseason. What our roster will be like coming into the season is becoming apparent.
Duncan and Blair IMO will get atleast 30 minutes. Splitter gets 18 minutes while McDyess gets about 15 minutes. They round up the PF/C position.
Jefferson, Manu, Parker, and Hill will most likely log somewhere between 28 to 32 minutes. The rest will go to our new rookie and a veteran pickup in the mold of Keith Bogans (Defensive specialist). That basically rounds up our 10 man rotation with guys.

Being in europe, I truly think you severely undervalue Splitter. You'll be surprised, very surprised by this player.

I do hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see it. I do expect big things from Splitter in the future... More like in his 2nd or 3rd year once he gets acclimated to the rules and become stronger and more consistent and everything.
I mean, when it comes to rookie bigs, even the best of them are foul proned. Especially when the guy plays physical defense while coming from a different league with different rules. It's really hard NOT to expect Splitter to come in and be foul proned in his 1st year. It's gonna take a learning period and usually it takes atleast a year. I personally expect Splitter's defense to be more like Varejao after a few years and even Varejao still has foul trouble issues even now. It was worse during his first couple of years. I don't see why we should expect anything different.
Like I said, I think he's more of a 6 points 5 rebounds guy in his first year playing 18 minutes. Sophomore year, expectations are gonna be way higher. Atleast to a degree of 13 points, 8 rebounds, in 28 minutes. And once Tim Duncan is gone and Splitter is in his prime (28 years old), he'll be logging 36 minutes, hopefully doing things like 18 points, 10 rebounds type of statistics.

Splitter would be a big upgrade from the bigs we currently have.
Dice played well in the post season but has a lot of miles on him.
Blair is very undersized and had foul trouble throughout and lets not forget the dozens of blown lay ups.
Bonner is good for spreading the floor but a liability on the defensive end.
Tiago would give us a legitimate center who can defend and rebound. With Duncan getting long in the tooth I wouldn't be surprised if Pop gave him more mins than a traditional rook.

I like this Anderson kid. I don't watch all that much college ball but sounds like the kid can flat out shoot. Exactly what we are missing.
Fill the roster with an experienced vet. I would love to get Matt Barnes. Exactly the type of defender we need to muscle up on top notch players.
Get Splitter and we have a very solid rotation.
TP/ Hill
Manu/ Anderson
RJ/ to be named later / Hairston
Duncan / Blair
Splitter / Dice
Let's not forget the very tradeable assets of RJ and TP expiring contracts.

The Spurs did a great job of picking up a potential lead scorer off the bench for this team. Hopefully Anderson's arrival signifies the end of the Bogans era in SA. This team probably has one of the deepest, most talented backcourts in the NBA right now.
Reports indicate that Richards strongly desires to play in the NBA next season. Due to his skillset, does it seem feasible that he may replace Bonner on this team?
I know this might seem crazy but if the Spurs were to sign Richards as a project big and maybe bring back Mahinmi they could have a balanced frontcourt. With Mahimni moving to secure some of Bonner's minutes in the rotation and Richards becoming a project shooting big.

I don't really think it signifies the end of Bogans era in SA. I really don't think he was coming back anyways. I think drafting Anderson means bye bye Mason. Mason was our shooting specialist. We don't need him anymore. Bogans, however, was our defensive specialist and mainly plays backup SF on this team. We still don't have that yet.

I think the Richards pick was a little risky but it could pay off big time. He's young, full of potential and has a NBA body. It sounds like he's ready to come over this year and play in the D-league, he'll take a couple season of work but I think he could be a very good player in time.
Hopefully we can pick up a few undrafted free agents, theres alot of talent still out there. Mikhail Torrance, Artsiom Parakhouski and/or Elijah Millsap would all be great pickups. I really think all three of those guys are NBA players.

Yep I think this is the end Mason's time in a Spurs uni. Bogans can still be a usefull player for us off the bench.

Mason's gone. He requested a trade midseason but it fell through. He never met expectations. He had a decent season in 2008-09, but he never built on that this season. His minutes were spotty, but Bogans was the better defensive player and Pop favors players that produce on D.
I like the look of our 1st rounder, I don't follow college ball but he seems to tick the boxes of all the things we need. We've generally drafted very well, even the players we didn't end up keeping (Barbosa, Dragic).
