What is there to negotiate? Don't all first round rookies get paid according to their slot?

Nope... after three years they can be signed over their rookie salary scale. The Spurs plan to use their MLE to sign him.

Wow I love how no one is talking about this. Hell when I mention Tiago Splitter to people they look at me like wtf are you talking about.

Wont be looking at me like that though when we are pushing through the playoffs.

LOL. DJthesonicsfan? You should bump all his threads up.

Now it's time we bring in a SF. I know Jefferson wasn't that great of a fit and expectations are high when a guy is making 15 million a season. Despite being inconsistent, he was productive, rebounded the ball fairly well, and I personally don't mind 12 points 5 rebounds if the guy is making midlevel type money. I really hope we bring him back. It'll be hard to win games if we're counting on Hairston to play 35 minutes starting at SF.

Congrats! It´s not always you add a starter to a contender team with only MLE type of money.

Happy with this. I won't bother looking at youtube clips, that won't tell the whole story. Looking forward to seeing him play this season. Hopefully he can extend TD's career a couple of years, and push us into the upper tier of the WC again.

Great adittion for the spurs.

He goes to the NBA in the right moment, after being an important player in Europe. The same way Marc Gasol and Scola did. His level in ACB was close to Marc and Scola when they leaved, maybe a little step behind.

It´s not going to be a burst, that for sure. Expecto two years to reach his best level, 15 pts, 10 rbd. Everything depends on how he adapts to the city and the team.

P.D.: Sorry for my english, it´s been a long time since I don´t writte in english.

I don't really understand the whole stigmata of labeling a player as a center or power forward. Duncan has always been a player who plays in the low post but can extend his range to the mid to high post due to his range. I guess they will put Splitter as a center, and Duncan as a PF

The NBA has this thing of labeling players by their positions, in the end you are a point, a swing player(SG,SF), or or a post player. Some players might have some extra skills in addition to their natural position.

I look at Odom and Gasol, and both can play two positions. Odom can player SF and PF, and Gasol can play PF and C effectively. Odom to me is just a forward and Gasol is just a really great post player.

I'm likely to be in the minority.

I don't think Splitter starts. Especially if we're talking the start of the regular season. I just don't think he'll come in first day and dominate everyone to the point that Pop name him starter on first day. He needs to get used to NBA rules. I was somewhat hoping he played in the Summer league atleast to get acquainted to the rules a little.

I see the Finley syndrome on Bonner. Pop likes him too much and assuming Jefferson comes back, this perimeter lineup lacks shooting and we have to make that up by having Bonner as that shooter so the floor is spread.

Blair IMO is the breakout player this year. He got 8 points 6 rebounds in 18 minutes last year but he was also inconsistent and foul proned. With a year of NBA experience, I expect his minutes to jump up to around 25 to 30 minutes a game while getting something more like 12 points 9 rebounds.

If I have to make a guess on who ends up as our second best big next year, I'm putting my money on Dejuan Blair really. Not Splitter. But I sure hope I'm wrong. The Spurs can afford Blair sucking. They cannot afford Splitter turning into a bust. Centers are hard to find and if he ends up being good, that could go a long long way for this team.

Doesn't matter at all if he starts.. I mean, probably the starter will be Dice, cause of his name, veterany and all that, but Splitter will play more minutes..
Also, getting a line up with Hill, Manu, Anderson/Hairston, Blair/Bonner, Splitter in the 2nd quarter would be great..
Manu will play p&r with Tiago or just deliver some assist down there so he can finish them.
I'm sure Manu will make him produce some good numbers..
