How much longer does Tim Duncan play?

Post#1 » by SApuro_ » Sat Jul 24, 2010 4:28 pm

TD has a lot of wear and tear on him. Do you think he plays beyond his 2 yr contract?

If the Spurs can prove to be title contenders I think he sticks around maybe another yr or two beyond his contract.

I think he'll stick around for another 2 or 3 years.

I have no idea. 3 years sound about right.

He was pretty much a 20/10 guy last year. Its not like he is a high flyer.... I think he can play for for a while.

The thing is, as he ages, Pop will keep shortening his minutes.

I can see that in 2 years, Pop will probably limit Duncan's minutes to about 25 a game. By that time, I think fatigue is a factor for him and I do think he'll call it quits. I doubt he wants to go out as a 15 minutes player averaging 7 points and 4 rebounds. As a 25 minute guy, he can still go out with a bang, much like David Robinson did, perhaps doing averages of 13 points and 7 rebounds. That's his farewell tour.

Im a Pacer fan but have always followed TD and I hope he can play a few more years.

Whats the odds of the year he retires you guys getting the 1st pick in the draft and getting a 3rd back to back to back hall of fame center?

1987- David Robinson
1997- Tim Duncan
2007- Greg Oden (if he can plays someday....)

We must wait to 2017 draft to adquire the next big (dominant and destroyer) man.

I also read a comment by coach Pop that as soon as TD retires, he will also retire.

Don't know if there is any truth in that. Wonder who our next coach might be ?

2 years at minimum..3rd year and beyond would be a Shaq-like role.

When TD is gone, the Spurs should start rebuilding with younger players. With that, you need a tough and disciplined coach. That would be a perfect situation for us to bring in Avery Johnson. hopefully, he's available when that time comes. Whatever happens thou, we need a coach that embodies the Spurs and comes from a Spurs program. That means we need a defensive minded coach who is also high on character.

Dwight Howard from the 2004 class, Hakeem Olajuwon from the 1984 class, and Shaquille O'Neal from 1992 class said hi! Others like Ewing and Malone wants to say hi too.

On Topic: I wish Duncan can still play a few more years...he was sick last time I was at the game. He is my favourite player of all time!

Centers leave alot to be deserved...

Dwight Howard who is supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread... just sucks at times on offensive.

It is pathetic the amount of single digit scoring games he had in the playoffs.

While Dwight is strong as ox, he really have little offensive game. Timmy had much more skills in his rookie year than Dwight today. By the end of the day, Dwight is the most dominant post player today.

Well according to wiki a 7 footer occurs once in 3 million people putting the total world population at around 20,000. Puts in perspective how hard it is to find a seven footer with bball skills

I grew up following Timmy D (he was my favorite player) and stopped being a major fan around 2005 (when Darko was traded to ORL -- giving me an excuse to leave the Spurs "bandwagon", despite the fact that they became my team days after I learned of basketball) and while I hope he plays extremely well for the next few years, I really hope he goes out on top and not as a role-player ala O'Neal. I remember the tough matches they had and how I used to complain about O'Neal having way more help than Duncan (Derek Anderson being the best SG Duncan played with for half his prime...pre-Ginobili domination) and how I always felt Duncan was the least appreciated superstar the game has ever seen.

That said, I don't know if any of you remember this game, but it's stuck with me about 8 years now.

Against the Wizards (this might have been during Jordan's era with Wiz), Duncan had a horrific game one night where he was something like 4-22 (I think) and down the stretch, he hit all his shots (almost) to finish the game 7-27 and the Spurs pulled out a win. I was happy for the Spurs, but I remember frantically worrying about Duncan's FG% falling under .500 exactly. Does anyone remember the game (for any random reason LOL) because I'd love to re-watch it and put my mind to ease.

2 questions I'd like to know.

1. What does Darko being traded has anything to do with you stopping being a major fan of the Spurs?

2. That Wizards game... So the only reason you remember that game was because you worried about Duncan's FG% dropping below .500? That's it? I absolutely have no idea why anyone would worry "frantically" just because Duncan's FG% drop under .500. When I think of Duncan's games, I can think of a whole lot more memorable games than that...
