What do you think of Roger Mason

Post#1 » by Luv those Knicks » Fri Aug 6, 2010 4:40 am

Is he a good player? Overrated? a scrub / guy you're happy to be rid of?

Obviously he wasn't as good in 09/10 as he was in 08/09, but I'm curious if you think he can play.

Thanks. (knick fan - obviously).
Go Knicks!! Go Mets!!

As for the Jets . . . just keep it entertaining.

I'm not going to miss him really. He's a streaky three point shooter and really nothing more. He's not a good defender and despite what every Knick fan's been telling me today he can't play the point. He did hit some big shots for us in 08/09, but last year his attitude and lack of defense got him deep into Pops doghouse.

In all fairness, I remember that he had some hand injury last year and it affected his shooting. I can definitely understand him not making shots and all, but it's really his shot selection that bothers me. He knows he's not 100% healed and it's still bothering him, yet he's out there taking shots that he can't make even if he's healthy. I really don't remember that being as much a problem in 08/09. It's almost as if he knew it's contract year and he's trying to do too much.

I personally don't mind Mason if he just sits there at the 3 point line being like Steve Kerr instead of trying to be like Jordan. He's old, but he's new in the NBA. He's still trying to show the league he's more than what he really is. That's his biggest biggest problem. Once he plays within his abilities, he'll be a good addition to any team. But for NY who don't care about shot selections, he might have a career year there.

He had a productive first year with our team. Made some big shots and came up clutch in the regular season. Pop tried him out as a back up point to get him some more mins and he tanked from there. Last year he was banged up and never really came together.

For the price Knicks picked up a solid player who will flourish in D'antoni's system. He is a better defender now than when he first came to the Spurs. One teams trash is another one's treasure.

He won't make the Knicks championship contenders but he'll crack the rotation and is a solid bench addition.

If I were a Knick fan I'd be pleased with the pick up....we all know it could be alot worse...i.e. Curry, Rose, or one of the countless ineffective over paid guards the Knicks have been known to pick up.

IMO, he is a good bench shooter, I don't think he can really dribble and crack rotation.

He is at best Mike Dunleavy or Jason Kapono.
