IMO, I'm in the minority on this issue. To me, George Hill isn't all that special.

at his size, 6'3'', his biggest potential is as a PG. So lets breakdown his game as a PG.

His best attribute obviously is his defense. He's long, quick, and most importantly he gives that effort and focuses on the defensive end. But let's not overrate George Hill's defense. It's above average, but it's not DPOY stopper kind of thing. He's good at it, but not that good.

If you notice, that's his best attribute and he's not even that great at it. That's when you know he's solid, but not great.

Breaking down the rest of his game.

3 pointers, right now, his 3 point shooting is limited to corner 3s. And again, he got good at it, but not great.

Mid range shots, he's very streaky. This shot is usually available for him when he's playing pick and roll.

Finishing? I thought he's decent at it. Problem is, he doesn't get to the rim often enough.

Ball handling. Average. He's not as bad as Roger Mason, but he's certainly not a guy who can shake and bake a guy doing crossovers or some ****. You're not gonna put George in a one on one situation and tell him to kill that guy unless he got cross-matched on some 7 foot stiff.

Passing. Average. No, he doesn't have Kidd's court vision or Chris Paul's or whatever. He's good at running the offense, but not gonna create consistent easy baskets for others. That's why you don't see him get many assists either.

What else is there I didn't cover? As a PG, i think those are the crucial things for them to become special. George Hill is not. Stuffs like court vision IMO can't really be teached. Shooting, if you were good to begin with, then there's a chance that you become a great shooter. Hill came in as an inconsistent streak shooter. It's not likely he'll ever become a great shooter.

So what you have is a good defensive minded PG with streaky shooting, average ballhandling and passing ability.

Will he get a lot of playing time? Hopefully we limit him to 24 minute as a combo guard. Manu gets 30, Parker gets 34. That leaves about 32 minutes for backup PG/SG. I'm hoping atleast 8 of those minutes can be given to James Anderson. We severely need some shooting help and he's our best guy at it.

I think he's a great role player and I think he's definitely starter material. He might no be the most talented player on the team, but he's a worker that brings a ton of energy to the floor.

Hill really reminds me Bobby Jackson. A jack of all trades guard who gets it done.

I think George Hill is a good hope for the Spurs but isn't that all star kind of talent.
He is 24 and entering his 3rd NBA season. He's not in his prime years yet though he's shown good things on court. His shooting % is really good for a sophormore (FG 47,8% and 3pt 39,9%). He scores 12,4 PPG and played almost 30 minutes.
The most interesting thing i find in Hill's game is that he has a strong personality to play in closed games or playoffs. He didn't choke or wasn't a liability for the Spurs. He scores and earn minutes on court witch shows that he has that "fire" inside.
He definitly has to improve his point guard game cause he needs to much of Manu being the playmaker.
To sum, he is a good player, has heart and add good things to the Spurs, but he isn't (yet?) all star material or the guy that we can say: "Let Tony go, we have George.." There's a difference between scoring as a role player and being the go-to guy.

I think Hill will play more than 24 minutes.
Parker 32, Manu 28 (5 as SF so 23 as SG), Hill 30 (16PG+14SG), Jefferson 30 and Anderson, Neil and "SF back up" will play (11 SG+13 SF= 24 minutes).

**** no. He's an extremely talented scorer, can finish with the best of them, has a great work (finished tied for runner up to MIP), and is just a great all around player. I said it once and I'll say it again, George Hill has made Tony Parker expendable.

Hill is a marginal starter in the NBA. He is great as a backup point guard but we have to be idiots if we think his play last year makes Parker expendable.

He filled his role as a scoring point guard, but he isn't a distributor. He is worse than TOny, and Tony is a medicore player maker.
