Summer of 2011

Suddenly I wonder about next year.

Dice will retire but Splitter will go on to get more playing time. Duncan, Blair, Bonner Splitter are under contract and should form a nice 4 man rotation at PF/C position.

Jefferson is still 30 years old and under contract for 3 more years at that time and James Anderson is waiting at the wing as the future SF.

Manu and Parker plays the bulk of minutes at the guard position with George Hill getting roughly 30 minutes backing them up. Whatever minutes is left will be taken by Neal.

So really, looking at next year, I think we're pretty set with what we have right now. So what position should we draft? Who should we target? What position do we need help on right now? What do we need?

I'm browsing around the FA class of 2011. Here's the link.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/stor ... ents-11-12

We'll be armed with the MLE (I think we'll use), LLE (Don't think we'll use), and a draft pick.

One thing I think we sorely need is a SF/PF type player. Right now Jefferson is playing that role and he's doing well at it this year but we certainly lack some size at SF. Hell, we even lack size at PF.

There are names I like.

Shane Battier
Greg Oden
Grant Hill
Mbah Moute
Matt Barnes
Tayshawn Prince
Deshawn Stevenson

Lots of SF that will available and fit our team perfectly. My top choices are Mbah Moute, Prince, and Battier. All of those teams are defensive specialists who are now on teams that aren't that good. They'd be perfect for veteran teams with championship aspirations like ours.

Well, for next year we will have to see how was the evolution of Palmer and Cousin in the Toros.
I think Wilson Chandler will be a FA too, and he has improve his shooting and his overall game very much this year. He can be your answer co_laper..

As for the draft pick, well, for sure it will be a 25-30 pick, so if we want a good player to make an "impact" in that season, it will have to be a SG-SF..
It's hard to find a good big at the 25-30 pick, unless he's international and we will have to wait some years so as he can get away from his contract.

Manu and Splitter will play for their national team. I think TP too.

If the Spurs had Shane Battier, it would be over...

I`d really like to see us go after Luc Richard Mbah a Moute. He would be a perfect fit on our team.

As far as the draft goes I think we should go BPA and not worry about position. Right now its kinda to be tough to judge who`s going to be available though with the new CBA/possible lockout around the corner.

After years of trying to replace Bowen, let's go after the next best thing currently playing: Battier.

Battier 32, Prince 30, Moute 24.

Those numbers are the age of all the 3 guys. Personally, Battier is the one i like most, but he's too old right now. Even the smartest players who came through San Antonio still needs a season to get acclimated to the system and everything. We have to assume that the same exists for all 3 guys. Battier will be 33 by summer, add another year of acclimating, he'll be 34 when he's ready to contribute and Duncan will probably retire by that time.

I think we need to focus on the current and the future.

Mbah Moute is only 24 and can be a huge part of our future team as the new Bruce Bowen. With Splitter, Blair, Moute, Neal/Anderson, and Hill, we look to have a solid defensive team in the future. Problem right now is that Moute don't have a 3 point shot like Battier or Prince but so did Bowen. He just need to develop that corner 3.

Plus, he's got great size and is arguably the best rebounder of the 3. Moute even played some Center this year when Bogut went down.

Battier's 32 already? Man, time flies.

I know right??? I was checking the age thinking Prince is probably the oldest being somewhere around 31, and then Battier I thought was probably 29 or 30 like Jefferson. Turns out Battier is 32 (older than Jefferson) and Prince is only 30. Battier was a 4 year college guy though... So he entered the NBA kinda late.

Battier now would be nice. Next yr its too late. He's too long in the tooth. Especially if there is a lockout.

Prince on the other hand would fit very nicely in this system.

If Houston is shopping "everyone" like WT suggests, let's reclaim Scola in a firesale.
