Where oh where do we go from here?
Im not going to talk about blowing it up or trading the core. Im asking a question to all die hard spurs fans looking at 61 wins and a first round loss. Looking at the draft, free agents, and current roster what needs to happen?
My thoughts.
1) Get a big to help TD and add depth up front.
Marc Gasol, Memphis Grizzlies - $3.6 million – Unrestricted*
Tyson Chandler, Dallas Mavericks - $12.6 million – Unrestricted
2) Play Splitter more
3) We are deep lets play the young guys more

Sigh - Marc's an RFA. Don't know where you're getting your info from, but it's wrong. YOu'll need to look elsewhere for a 5.

Samuel Dalembert would be a good fit for the spurs.

We need a badass mofo at the center or power position. Honestly if we had Blair mentality and physically in Spittler body... we would be set.

I was thinking the same thing for my sports blog site. I say draft Kenneth Faried http://www.sportsinsanity.com/wordpress/?p=1053

Re: Where oh where do we go from here?
Samuel Dalembert would be a great fit and a guy like Kenyon Martin would be a good 2nd option if we can't get Dally. We need to add some size and defense at center, that's our biggest issue right now.
I'd also like to see us go after Grant Hill and ditch the RJ experiment. Hill would be a perfect fit on this team. He plays great defense, rebounds, passes and he can shoot.

I wouldn't mind giving Oden a chance, we definatly could use his size. Hopefully he has out grown the injury bug and for his sake can put in some solid years and shake some of the "bust" stigma.
As much as i like Grant Hill, i think a more youthful approach is whats needed here.

Re: Where oh where do we go from here?
We go where we should have gone in this series sooner.
Start Splitter.
I hate the what if game but if we start Splitter against Memphis we may have won. At first he refused to play him when gasol and Zebo were killing us. Then he put him in Blair's spot.
But what Pop needed to do was play Duncan and Splitter together. That's one of Pop's weaknesses is making adjustments quickly. It took him half a season to play Tony, Manu, Timmy and Richard Jeff together.
And being bull headed about playing rookies.
From what I see as currently composed Splitter needs to start next to TD. Splitter can do everything except stroke the jumper.

If the price is right i'd love too take a chance on Oden. If he could stay healthy he could become the dominant center everyone thought he could be.

Re: Where oh where do we go from here?
Absolutely NO to Oden. He is not worth even the minimum salary and I don't know how anyone believes he can be back to any semblance of health and playing shape. To me he is already an all-time bust.
I know a lot of you guys have mentioned Dalembert's name but he is one more guy I just don't like. He is really a big body and is a capable defender but in the last two seasons he's been on a major decline. I think we need someone younger. Last season I already liked DeAndre Jordan before he had his big breakthrough but after this season I don't see the Clippers letting him go easily. From that point on I'm not sure who do we go after and that's why I have as our no. 1 draft need drafting a big. My personal pick would be JaJuan Johnson of Purdue but he's projected several picks earlier. I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Love JJJ Im a Purdue fan but his size concerns me he went from 185 as a freshmen to 220 I dont know how much more can his frame hold. He has shot blocking skills and can score out to 25ft.

Get Jason Thompson. He could be a great student for Duncan
or
Get Kyrylo Fesenko. A big body to play C. And he could learn many things with Duncan

If Tiago Splitter was NBA ready.
SA would have still be playing. I hope he can improve this offseason. Blair at C can;t often work in the playoffs

Re: Where oh where do we go from here?
Blair obviously is best suited as an energy big man off the bench so he can be matched up with backup bigs on the floor.
Splitter IMO should be a starter next year after what happens in the Memphis series. We desperately need his size on the floor. But he desperately need to get bigger and stronger. He plays physical, but doesn't have the body to complement his game.
Bonner hopefully gets reduced playing time and plays the least of the 4 (TD, Blair, Splitter, Bonner). More of a situational player.
I honestly doubt we'll get much upgrade on that front. McDyess will most likely retire. If the CBA stays the same or whatever, him retiring means we'll be using our MLE on someone. I'm thinking we upgrade our perimeter because we badly need a defender. That's where guys like Mbah A Moute comes in.
The problem with that frontline of ours is that we lack shotblocking, athleticism, and low post scoring. It would help if we're big and fat like Memphis with Gasol and Zbo, but we're not. I can't see our frontline to be our strong point anymore. We're passable in the frontline and it's not likely to change barring a trade.
I understand that we had size issues againts Memphis, but more than anything, I think we need a Bruce Bowen more than anything. We need to get that defensive identity back. I really hope we go get Mbah a Moute. We severely need his defensive game.
If we have a bigger/strong Splitter, Duncan, Moute, Manu, Parker, we might have our defense back to one of the top in the league. And then with guys like Hill, Neal, Blair, Jefferson, and Bonner, we'd have the energy guys, bench scoring, and athleticism needed from a bench group.

Re: Where oh where do we go from here?
If you guys read the Pop interview on MySA.com, I really feel like there's not gonna be much change on the roster next year.
Pop mentioned that his biggest issue right now is the team needing to become an elite defensive team and the need for a starting four. But when it comes to a starting four, I think it's not likely we get one via trade. It will mean losing Parker/Manu/Duncan. It'd be different if we had like bunch of expirings like the year we got RJ because teams are willing to trade talent for expirings. He mentioned that they need to find out who is the starting four and it might be from the inside. After Splitter's playoff performance, I think he's the best candidate right now to win it.
Defensive identity, this is where I think gets interesting in the FA. If the Spurs want veterans, I think we're most likely to get Tayshawn Prince than Battier, especially after how well Memphis is playing this season. I think they'll keep Battier. Prince is just likely to move and I think he'd fit really well here if we can pay him. I think it goes down between Prince or Mbah a Moute. Veteran or youth. Prince will contribute better given he has 3 point range and is a versatile baller. Mbah a Moute is strictly a young defensive player.
Problem with Moute, if he is our starting SF, and then Splitter is our starting Center, then this team is going to be really bad when it comes to spacing. This will be like 2 years ago againts Dallas when RJ can't shoot the 3. The floor shrinks, spacing is bad, and Manu/Parker can't get to the paint.
Prince fits better, but older. Unless we trade RJ, do we really want two 30 year olds locked up in a multiyear deal at SF?

Re: Where oh where do we go from here?
i'm all for an RJ move. He really hasn't been the player we expected when we made the trade for him.
I'm interested in what Philly wants for Iguodala. He's a player i'd really love playing here but I seriously doubt we can put togther an overly compelling packing to get him to make the move to San Antonio.
