Kelvin Sampson

Post#1 » by Eshai » Mon Jun 6, 2011 10:27 pm

He is a rumored candidate in the Pistons coaching search, and I just wanted to get some insight on the type of coach he might be? I dont know much about him, but I read Popovich vouches for him and that says a lot. His NCAA career record is very impressive too. I personally dont care about his violations in college over some illegal phone calls. Thats very minor in my opinion. Its not like he was shaving points or something serious.

I know he was only an advisor to the Spurs and not sure if he actually coached on your bench in games, but if you have any insight on if you think he would be a good coach or not, let me know. Thanks.

I don't even know who that is. I thought this was gonna be another draft prospect thread.

He was an advisor for us for a year apparently. So no one here really knows anything about him.

I'm assuming anyone would be an upgrade over the corpse you had as a coach last season, right? GL with the search...

^Thanks, your right.

I think I made a mistake though on Sampson. The guy I thought I was Sampson on your bench, I think was Don Newman. They look kind of similar, and now I dont think I know who Sampson is either, lol.

Anyway, Newman has also emerged as a possible candidate. Any thoughts on him?

Don't really know too much about him either lol. If you guys are looking to hire a Spurs assistant you should look at Mike Budenholzer. He's been with the team for a long time and it seems like he could be a decent head coach.

Actually just listened to NBA Today podcast with Ryen Rusillo and he talked about Sampson for a few minutes. He basically made fun of him, saying that his agent is always pushing him to go on the podcast as a special guest and that he always puts his name up for big head coaching jobs even when he's not that well known in the league. According to Rusillo he was an assistant with the Pacers but he got fired.
