Manu plans to retire in 2 years

As per the wiretap: http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/21 ... _Two_Years

Probably not a shock to anyone, but still makes you cringe when you actually see it in writing!

So what do we need to do in order to plan for the future? Is it just a matter of sinking further down the conference and finding draft picks? Or do you think our FO is able to pull more rabbits out of what seems to be a bottomless hat?

I personally dont see how we rebuild without suffering for maybe half a decade.. :(

Depends on what you mean by suffering.

lottery or mediocrity?

Not a huge suprise really. But like you said BFrizzy it kinda just brings reality crashing down on you when you see it in writing.

Hopefully Anderson will pan out. The young guys are going to really have to step up next year, if there is a next year...

2 years sounds about right. It wouldn't surprise me if Pop and Duncan left then too. Sad as it is, reality is that this thing has to end some time. I like our young core moving forward. Blair, Leonard, Splitter, Neal, Anderson, there's something to build on from that.

It will be a sad day when Obi Wan Ginobili becomes one with the force :(
But like what has already been said its not something we are overly shocked about.

Really hope Anderson can piece together a solid year and crack the rotation. If it works out that Manu, Duncan and Pop all leave at the same time its going to be a painful few seasons for spurs fans.
At least we have some fond memories to keep us going until when unearth the next stellar bigman

I somehow feel that will be the case, Good that likely Parker will be there and spurs always get good picks so even if they suck for 2-3 years, they will get back to playoffs soon. Maybe with Duncan as assistant coach

Every team has its ebbs and flows as a franchise. We had it good for ten years, that's a long window to be legit title contenders. We picked up 4 along the way, can't complain about that. So we might suck for a few seasons when Pop/TP/Manu/TD call it a day...no big deal. It's part of being a fan.

I don't see TD in any kind of coaching role, not that he wouldn't do well as one, I just see him walking away from the game completely when he retires.

I look forward to the challenge of getting the team competitive Post-Duncan and seeing how long it takes. It took the Bulls at least a decade post-Jordan i reckon we can get back to being dangerous in less time than that :)

absolutely, also Spurs have Tony Parker on 5yr cap friendly deal it's a good start, there aren't really any bad long term contracts... hmmm maybe you can RJ consider bad, but he will be expiring or 2yr once Manu and Tim will retire

One thing for sure... he is going to play balls out the next two years no matter what. It might actually help us that it will be a shorten season already... less time for him to get hurt...lol
