PARIS -- Tony Parker will play with a French team during the NBA lockout, earning a mere $1,995 per month despite his star power on and off the basketball court.

ASVEL, based in Villeurbanne, near Lyon in southeast France, announced Wednesday that Parker will join the team.

Parker told the sports daily L'Equipe that the decision is "logical." He is vice president of the club and wants to help it advance.

"I'll be playing nearly for free ... If I play the entire season, we'll go for the title," he said.

I not suprised he signed in France, I we were all expecting him to go there. But while all these other guys are signing these huge deals overseas Tony's going to be getting 2,000 dollars a month. I know he's already the VP of the team but he could payed himself a little more.

$2K a month, and think of the draw a star like TP will bring to his team and the league.

Good for him, playing in his home country, only wish guys like Bogut would do the same.

Boguts issue is insurance. With his long injury history it might be better for to just sit on the sidelines for a year. Because if he plays he'll probably get hurt, he should just focus on getting in better shape this year.

I was shocked when I seen the 2k a month. I mean most people make way more than that.

Yeah, I follow Bogut and his management co. on Twitter. Shame it couldn't get worked out. He's really bummed out about it as well. He just wanted to play.

2k/month is very low. France is not cheap to live in. Obviously TPs doing okay, what with the NBA contract and endorsements and sales from his rap album.

Its his own team, he is main share holder. Hes an icon, and makes his money as a owner not as a player. That 2k contract is not even exist, it exists only on paper, as a France League minimum, its just there to make it legit.
