how far does this team go?

Post#1 » by co_laper » Sat Oct 15, 2011 7:36 am

Just wondering.

C: Greg Oden / Jeff Foster / Nick Collison
PF: Andrea Bargnani / Al Harrington
SF: Luol Deng / Jamario Moon
SG: Michael Redd / Mike Dunleavy / James Anderson
PG: John Wall / Kemba Walker / Jordan Farmar

Not sure why people are hating my team. Perhaps not title contender until the key guys hit their prime (Wall, Oden, Bargs, Deng) but I don't see it as a lottery team.

Wall and Kemba are a great duo at the point and with Wall's size they could play together like Kidd and Barea do and they could be effictive. Redd, Dunleavy and Anderson bring some scoring and shooting on the wing and Deng is a great two way small forward.

But this teams biggest problem is down low. At this point both Oden and Bargnani are complete wildcards, both have a ton of talent but both also have a ton of question marks. Health and durability are Odens biggest concerns and desire and consistency are Bargnani's. If Oden can stay healthy and if Bargnani grows a set of balls you have yourself a contender, if not you've got a lotto team or at the best a fringe playoff team.

Borderline lottery team. Soft as butter and injury prone at key positions. Does Redd even play anymore? Maybe a bottom 4 seed in the East - that's an absolute best case scenario - and not even sniffing the playoffs in the West.

Bigs have alot of question marks. I'm a big fan of bargs but he needs to much more consistant and play tough, but he does give you a stretch 4.
If oden can stay healthy and stop fouling people you got yourself a decent front court.

I think you need an upgrade at SG, Redd is borderline useless now (may i suggest derozan, slasher lots of upside and decent defender) , also an upgrade on harrington at the 4 (someone who can throw their weight around down low, harrington has become a bit of a jumpshooter and you already have that in bargs maybe our very own Blair) and you got yourself a good team with a bright future.
Loving the Wall/Walker 1-2 punch at point

I think the two most obvious issue for my team is low post scoring and health.

I tried to get some depth at both C and SG position to soften the blow a little if they do get injured. Oden is there to give the team some defense and I tried to load it with veteran role players like Jeff Foster and Nick Collison. Michael Redd is there primarily as my spot up shooter. I thought Dunleavy could replace the shooting if Redd is injured. Jordan Farmar is a capable combo guard. And Kemba Walker might be better used as scorer at SG with Wall next to him. It's not likely that Kemba Walker get many minutes behind Wall anyways playing PG.

Low post scoring, I don't know how to fix that. I don't find a trade that could land me a low post scorer. I realise this team is very perimeter oriented and probably low percentage. One offer that was on the table was a straight up Luol Deng for Gerald Wallace. Got any thoughts on that? I thought Gerald gets his points more from the inside, is a better rebounder, defender, and is the best athlete. He doesn't give the low post scorer, but should help the team get higher percentage shots won't it? The downside is that he's older than Deng. 5-6 years older I believe and he's up for Free Agency in my league. So there's a risk of losing him after the season. On a side note thou, Deng has 3 year 40 mil deal left on his contract so he's kinda overpaid.
