Former Nuggets forward Kenyon Martin is getting some attention from several NBA teams, including the San Antonio Spurs, now that his former Chinese team, Xinjiang, is out of the playoffs.

Kenyon MartinMartin left the team in December, but the Chinese Basketball Association prohibits players from signing with an NBA team until the season is over, which according to ABCLocal.com, makes Martin a free agent on February 16.

The Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers,Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks are pursuing free-agent forward Kenyon Martin, according to league sources.Martin has spoken with executives from each of the clubs and is hoping to make his decision next week.

I mentioned him early this year and I still think he'd be the perfect 5th big for us.

Thoughts?

Would be much better than Blair and Bonner, but i don“t think he will come to the Spurs..

Nobody can offer him big money so if i were him, i would chose Miami that is more of a contender than the other teams.. Given his age, ring chasing is the most intelligent thing to do.

It sounds like the Clippers have offered him a 1 year 2.5 million dollar deal. Doubt we offer him anything close to that.

I'd love to get him, but certain we wont. LA and Miami will be too attractive IMO.

I think he goes with the Clippers. Wouldn't mind having him here but I don't see it happening.

Logical move for both sides really. Martin gets to live in LA, doesn't have to be the man with the Clippers and competes for a title. Win-win all round.

So much for that. Free agents VERY rarely ever choose to play in San Antonio though, nobody should have expected him to have come here. The only way it happens is if someone wants to ressurect their career as a specialist, or they suck and want to get some coaching in to become a fraud specialist at something just so they can get paid.

Think of all the ex-Spurs scrubs that got paid just because they were a Spur. Roger Mason, Keith Bogans, Nazr Mohammed got a huge deal. . .the list is pretty large. Now, Nazr was good anyway, but those other guys? Please.

I was personally shocked when I heard we got TJ Ford. Then I checked his stats and saw he'd been struggling with injuries for 2 years straight, so it began to make sense. Vven still, I cannot remember one free agent that we've signed with a bigger name than TJ Ford. . .and his name isn't even that big (other than Wilkins for 1 year when he was trying to ressurect his career, which ended up being little more than something to pretend was interesting during the miserable season that that was). Every decent guy we've pulled in since I've been watching the team in the early 90's was via trade or just a draft pick.

No one good ever intentionally decides to come here. I don't know why exactly, but even the Cleveland Cavs have gotten bigger free agents than us. CLEVELAND!

Anyway. . .with Martin out of the picture, and us still needing a good bench big, who's even left anymore? I can't see anyone making any kind of impact at all except foolishly gambling on Rasheed Wallace. It's really too bad McDyess retired, because we could sure as hell use last year's McDyess right now.
