GT: Spurs vs. Clippers

Post#1 » by Nolan » Fri Feb 17, 2012 6:00 pm

When: 3:30 PM ET, February 18, 2012
Where: STAPLES Center, Los Angeles, CA

VS

Starting Lineups:

Spurs:
PG - Tony Parker
SG - Daniel Green
SF - Richard Jefferson
PF - Tim Duncan
C - DeJuan Blair

Clippers:
PG - Chris Paul
SG - Randy Foye
SF - Caron Butler
PF - Blake Griffin
C - DeAndre Jordan

We're going for win number 10 in a row against a very tough Clippers tomorrow afteroon and it should be a great one.

The key to winning this is going to be stopping the Paul and Griffin pick and role. Last time we played the Clippers Griffin killed us so this time around we're going to have to do a better job of keeping him out of the paint. We need to duck screens and force him to make outside jumpers.

Go Spurs!!

We blew out the Clippers earlier in the year when we played them, and the Clippers struggled to score last night against the Blazers, but. . .

We blew them out when Manu was healthy and playing like a beast. . .and Jefferson was on fire too. We also had TJ Ford still.

Anyway, a big positive is that the Spurs had two days to prepare for the Clippers and plenty of rest. I think it'll be a good game, and our chances to win shouldn't be any worse than 50/50 even in being @LA.

First quarter finished and we already gave up what? 5-6 dunks? This could get ugly.

Clippers are a very good team. Blake probably still needs to improve defensively, but the team as a whole has incredible length and athleticism defensively, not to mention toughness with Kmart and Reggie Evans there. Offensively, they got post game, point guard play, slashing game, 3 point shooters.

Clips making it a point to run at our 3 point shooters. Our 3 point game has been quiet. Having a hard time getting shots off.

2nd quarter much better.

Duncan got hot. He already has 8 points and 11 rebounds. Our defense tightened on the inside but we're giving up open 3 pointers. Luckily they're not making it on the 2nd quarter. Also, no alleyoops in the 2nd quarter and we're now up 2 after being down 11 points in the 1st quarter. Kawhi also played very well. Guarded Blake Griffin for quite a while in the 2nd quarter and he already has 4 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal in 11 minutes.

Mo Williams is really the only good shooter they have basically... the others are semi-decent to streaky

Yeah Kawhi's come in and done well over RJ, Like how Green especially has been playing, and defending Paul.. three possessions I remember him really getting after him one on one

Leonard's definitely playing better than Green today. Though, Leonard's lack of a decent jumpshot showed it's ugly head again today. :\ Bricked that three at the end of the 1st (why didn't he just pass!?) and bricked another open three in the 2nd. Still, I liked the pass he made to Bonner for that three. Unselfish plays are always nice.

I'm surprised we're even in the game. Collectively as a team we hit what, ONE jumper in the first? Every point we got was basically a layup or teardrop besides like one shot. 1-12 or 1-14 with jumpers or something until the 2nd, whereas the Clippers seemed to have hit every open shot they had. :\

One thing that irks me about this game is that the Clippers are getting away with a lot of pushes. DeAndre Jordan got away with at least two pushes. Clippers as a team only had 2 fouls called against them in the first half. 8 on the Spurs. I don't like that gigantic disparity.

Now it's 9-2.

Great start to 2nd half I see - nice!

Bonner starting 2nd half, probably has a bit better feel defensively for the Clips rollers

What Clippers are lacking right now are discipline. Offensively they're shooting threes and long jumpers. Defensively they're just not in tune with each other. Part of that ofcourse is great ball movement by the Spurs, but the Clips got switched too easily and Parker is picking them apart.

And Chris Paul has not been assertive yet. He's deferring too much.

Horrible 4th quarter, especially the last 2 minutes.. Refs did their absolute best to gift wrap it for the Clippers. Typical bs favortism for hyped teams.

Luckily for us Chris Paul mentally choked to let Neal get a shot he never should have gotten so we could tie it and send it to OT.

Great f'n win

Green was key defensively, Parker was really good and basically put the team on his back, Duncan was a like a crane getting boards and defending, Bonner played a fun game and actually was a factor defensively against Blake multiple times (including a few times by himself)

TP couldn't score on K-Mart late... credit to K-Mart for playing some great defense tonight in a number of ways
