Hello Spurs fans, outsider here. I was wondering what your team's weaknesses are. What sort of teams give Spurs problems? Feel free to use examples.

Offensively, our lack of true isolation scorers can hurt us sometimes. Having a team system offense like ours is great, but there are certain times when it's nice if we can just go down to Tim Duncan and he delivers like the old days. And certainly, having a Kevin Durant type would be nice. Problem is, our best offensive player is Parker, and he's not the type of guy that you can just give the ball to and say "go do you thing". Him being a pick and roll player, you can make him give the ball up and force role players to step up for the big shot.

And I also think we can use more post up scorer other than Duncan. Splitter can do it sometimes, but Duncan is not as automatic as he once was. The team is too reliant on pick and rolls and basically Parker getting to the rim to have the offense going.

Defensively, the team that gives us the most trouble obviously are the teams that are strong perimeter defensive teams. The past Memphis teams that beat us with Battier/Allen/Conley fits this blueprint because their defense stopped our penetrations. When you stop the penetration, it resulted to three pointers. Now, if the defense have the foot speed to get back to the shooters, then we're getting contested three pointers. Luckily, not many teams have that kind of defense so usually this strategy by the defense resulted to WIDE OPEN three pointers. Most teams are only able to give up one or the other. Either stop the penetration and give up the wide open shots, or stay with the shooters but force Parker to beat you to the rim. If you have a strong perimeter defender, like allen, usually you play it this way.

We're noted for our depth at all positions these days, and that's generally considered a strength, but I think it's almost a weakness come playoff time. Because we share the ball and there is no distinct alpha dog on this team, it can be hard to rely on someone to really step up in a playoff series. OKC has Durant and Westbrook in the alpha role, Miami has LeBron and Wade. Hell, even NYK has Melo. You need a guy that can carry you in the last few minutes of a game 7.

As good as we are, I don't think we have that player. Timmy has been great this year but he can't carry us like he used to.

So I would say depth is definitely something of a weakness for us. It's a strength for the 82 game grind and it gets exposed in a 7 game series.
