Free Agent Targets?

Post#1 » by yellowsub264 » Mon Jun 17, 2013 5:38 pm

Assuming Duncan comes back and Manu signs something like a 2 year 12 million dollar deal, the Spurs would have about 11 million to spend, who do you think they target in free agency? I took a look at who would be available, but I figured you guys are fans of the team and might have a better idea.

I doubt we target anyone. We still have to resign Splitter and Neal and those two will eat up most of that 11 million.

My biggest worry is the contract we sign Splitter for.

I personally feel that Splitter is getting overrated very quickly and that might mean he gets overpaid. As a Center, Splitter's only thing that he does well is finishing on pick and rolls. I consider him at best an average rebounder. He's not a shotblocker. He plays decent post defense. Good pick and roll defense. Limited low post game.

All that makes him an average Center. But I'm worried that in an era where bigs are scarce, we end up overpaying for him.

Personally, I think Neal is expendable. Green and Manu at SG is good enough. If anything, I'm fine with Green getting more minutes next year. We need a backup SF more than keeping Gary Neal.

I think as the league geared toward small ball, having a small ball PF who can rebound is important. And I mean, one that is taller than the 6'7'' Kawhi.
