Around the NBA: Offseason Edition

Post#1 » by Nolan » Wed Jul 3, 2013 5:06 pm

Figured i'd start a new thread for us to discuss the upcoming Dwightmare saga and all the free agency moves around the league this summer.

Celtics just hired Brad Stevens to be their next head coach. Bold move.

I haven't posted in a while but I am kind of a fatalist and didn't wanna post during the playoffs.

With Splitter and Manu re-signed (like we all figured would happen), I guess we are left with 2 roster spots (basically replacements for DeJuan and T-Mac). I don't know if we have enough money to make those Kirilenko rumors true. If not, that leaves us with 2 minimum-contract players. I would not be surprised to see DeShaun Thomas make the roster. Any guesses to who we might add (maybe one of our former picks like Ryan Richards even though I haven't seen him play and don't know whether he is NBA material)?

Good call Nolan.

Tyreke Evans to sign with the...Pelicans? It's going to take some time getting used to the name change. 4yrs/$44M.

Korver re-signs with the Hawks. 4yrs/$24M.

D12 hoping to decide on a team on Friday. I'd be surprised if it isn't Houston.

Still don't understand why the Pelicans are so in love with Evans. Sounds like they're going to be giving up Vasquez and Lopez in the sign and trade.

Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA 6m
San Antonio has reached agreement on a two-year, approximately $6 million deal with free agent Marco Belinelli, league sources tell Y!

Initial reaction: Green-Manu-Neal-Colo-Belinelli seems to be quite the log jam at the SG spot. Most of them are limited dimensionally, and I was hoping we could find a bench guy who could create his own offense so that Manu didn't shoulder the same load.

I imagine a lot of people will salivate over this pick up, but does this sniff like trade fodder? How does this affect our cap? Are we done now with any FA race?

Still no versatile backup for Kawhi right now, but maybe we won't need that. I'll defiantly watch summer league now.

I think the Belinelli move means goodbye to Neal. I'm good with it. Beli is like a poor man's Manu, which ironically at this stage of Ginobili's career might mean that Beli is an upgrade. I caught a few Bulls games last year and was impressed with his game. He was on the radar as someone to pick up and I'm glad we did.

Don't worry about a logjam, no Neal and de Colo will be used sparingly, if at all. Plenty of minutes for Belinelli.

Hold that thought. Surprise, surprise - Duhwight is having a hard time making a decision. What a stooge. So glad he wasn't on our radar.

Lol and everyone knew it was going to happen. I wouldn't be surprised if changes his mind at least one more time before the 10th.

And the award for dumbest move of the offseason goes to Joe Dumars for the signing of Josh Smith.

What was the point of that move from both sides? Why didn't Josh go join his buddy in Houston?

What's happening with Andrew Bynum? I haven't seen anything about him this offseason, no interest from other teams.

Apparently Dallas is interested.

No idea. He's not a 3 even though he thinks he is and that front court just isn't going to work.

Detroit has an owner who knows nothing about the NBA but wanted to spend money anyway. Dumars was almost forced to do something because the owner announced he was going to spend big this year. The deal shows 2 things....
1. The team has no idea what they are doing or what type of team they want to build.
2. Smith is more about the money than he is about winning.

I hope it works out for them but since Bill Davidson died the whole thing is a mess.

I remember last time he was a FA didn't he get an offer from Memphis that the Hawks matched? Anyway, yeah this is just a headscratcher of a move on all accounts.

I don't see a better place to post this. How do you guys feel about a trade with the Wizards for Ariza? Ariza for Blair and Bonner.
