I would be interested in seeing this trade, although I doubt Houston would trade within the division.

It would certainly be an interesting trade. Asik is unhappy and his performance has been pretty bad this year.
Splitter actually looks like he is slowly but surely developing into a better and more reliable player. He actually had a solid year last year until the playoffs, and then went MIA in the finals. Some people just develop slowly.
Who knows if he will be able to show up in the playoffs when the pressure is on this year? That is the question in my mind. Surely the guy went home and watched the tape and was saddened and embarrassed by his performance. He ought to come back this year determined to make amends.
To me PG is a relatively easy position to fill, and we won't miss Joseph that much. Nothing against him, but his upside doesn't excite me that much.
I would say that Asik was better last year than Splitter was (only looking at regular season). He makes less money and only has two years left on his contract. He really should be hungry to get out and show people what he can do this year and next. It is a complete guess, but unless Splitter improves this year (could happen) I am going to say that SA would be better off with Asik.

As much as i'd like to get Asik Houston is gonna be asking for a lot more.

Yea, I think you are right. I didn't think about that end of the deal much. If they could get Ryan Anderson for Asik, they would be stupid to settle for Splitter.
Houston probably has their sights set on a bigger return than that. They would really probably not want to deal with SA either.
I will say that if Miami gets him, that there is not a chance anyone will be able to beat them. They essentially played without a center last year and still won. If somehow the Clippers could get him, I think they might be really tough too. Maybe he will go to a really bad eastern conference team.

No reason for Houston to make that trade.
The thing is about Splitter's disappearance in the Finals is because the Heat played smallball and their small ball PF is Lebron James. We can't stay big and defend Lebron with Splitter or Duncan. And Splitter sure as hell isn't going to start posting up Lebron and be successful at it. So we had to choose between Duncan or Splitter as the Center and play small ball with Diaw and Kawhi at PF.
I don't blame the finals on Splitter's missing act. And trading Splitter for Asik really isn't going to change that.
And I honestly think that Splitter-Duncan is a better combo than Asik-Duncan.
Mainly, Duncan is a center defensively now. He's much better as a help defender. Splitter is more mobile and therefore better at guarding quicker/smaller PFs than Duncan.
Asik plays defense like Duncan. If we have Asik-Duncan, who's guarding the PF? Who becomes the help defender? They can't both be help defenders.
