Less than a year after losing top assistant coach Mike Budenholzer to the Atlanta Hawks, the Spurs may be in danger of losing his successor to the Utah Jazz.

According to a well-connected NBA source familiar with the Jazz’ search for a successor to head coach Ty Corbin, Spurs assistant Jim Boylen is at the top of Utah general manager Dennis Lindsey’s list of potential replacements.

Lindsey announced on Monday that the club will not offer a new contract to Corbin, whose contract soon will expire.

Assistant general manger of the Spurs from 2007 to 2012, Lindsey served as assistant GM for the Rockets during Boylen’s time as an assistant on Rudy Tomjanovich’s coaching staff. Boylen was a Houston assistant from 1992 until 2003.

Happy for Jim but this sucks for us. Another year another top assistant gone.

For whatever reason, I'm not high on any of our current assistants. Jim's been here for what? A year? Losing Bud hurts. I've always viewed him as Pop's successor. I don't see Jim Boylen as our Pop successor. He can go.

By the time Pop retires every team will have a coach from the tree of Pop. I agree with co_laper, it seems like the assistants here now hold less responsibility than assistants past. That could be a good thing, means Pop has more control this year if he is micromanaging more.
