If true, we could be in line to have 11 million to spend on FA, not counting Diaw and Mills ofcourse. Interesting to see if we use that to spend on Diaw and Mills or decide to go for a bigger fish.
I really want Pau Gasol, but cannot see how we get that done. Him and Duncan at the starting lineup doesn't really work. Both Gasol and Duncan can't guard PFs anymore. So if Pau is to come, he'd have to settle for bench role, likely replacing Diaw.
My prediction is actually for us to stay the same. The Spurs FO has always valued continuity and that's even more evident after last summer when we didn't even bother going after the big names.
Diaw will be 33 when FA comes and I think he takes another 2-3 year deal at about 4 million a year. He's getting 4.5 million a year right now. While I'd like that number to be lower, he's having a great season and that could affect his price.
Patty Mills will probably get about 3 year 9 mil or 3 year 12 mil deal. Basically either a 3-4 mil per year type of deal.
That leaves about 3 mil of capspace to use, not to mention I think we will have a room exception also available worth 2.5 million after all the signing gets done.
But again, what I really want is different. We will have 11 mil of capspace and 2.5 mil of room exception to use to replace Diaw and Mills. So in my head, we can get a bigger name with 11 mil of capspace, say Pau Gasol at about 8 mil. And then we can use that 2.5 mil room exception for a scoring minded PG. Say Devin Harris even. I'm not really sure who's available though that fits the bill.
Sources told ESPN.com that all 30 teams were informed this week via league memorandum that an increase in the cap from this season's $58.6 million to $63.2 million in 2014-15
