Marc Gasol?

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/235573/Spurs-Expected-To-Pursue-Marc-Gasol-As-Possible-Tim-Duncan-ReplacementMarc Gasol will be the New York Knicks' main free agent target next offseason, but the San Antonio Spurs will pursue Gasol assuming Tim Duncan retires after the season.
Gasol is also appealed by staying with the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies can offer Gasol the most money, and he has grown to love the city, having lived there since high school when Pau Gasol broke into the NBA.
If Duncan does retire Marc would be a perfect fit.
Thoughts?

A great move in a perfect world. I would be all for it, but Memphis can overpay to keep him and I'm not sure who would be considered closer to a title contender in 2016 between SA and Memphis if Timmy and Manu both retire.

I dunno a core of Marc, Tony and Kawhi is better than anything Memphis could put together. Add in Splitter, Mills, Diaw, Anderson and maybe Green and that's a pretty solid team.

Yeah, I guess you have a point there. Another factor will be playoff runs this year. If Memphis goes far everything will be lovey-dovey there and he might stay to chase a title but if they get run from the playoffs early he might bolt. On the other hand if we go deep or win a championship again I don't know if any FA's will want to come and try to live up to the past 3 years. They could be destined to fail and might want to win in another city where if they fall short it wont be because of them.

I've never thought about it that way and it's a solid point. Nobody wants to be the big money fall guy.

Pipe dream. Along with Noah, he might be my favorite non-Spur, but I just don't see it happening.

Yeah I know what you mean. Marc's been in Memphis since high school and it sounds like he likes it there so I have a hard time seeing him leave. Maybe a legit shot at a ring would be enough to convince him but who knows.

True, but as mentioned above, when TD and Manu go are we a better option than that Memphis core?

Would love to see Marc on the spurs. I wonder if Duncan would take a pau/dirk type 7 mil deal for another year or two. Is it possible to trade splitter? Maybe even a S/T with other parts for Marc. This is definitely a contender for the next 2-5 years, even if Duncan retires in 2:
Marc Diaw
Duncan Diaw stretch4
Leonard Anderson
Shooter (Manu?) 1strd pick
Parker Mills Vet

In the same division, I have my doubts. Good to dream, but I doubt it.

Him or Bogut. Either would be perfect.

I like Bogut and he's more realistic but he way too injury prone, so no.

Maybe between him and Splitter we can get a full 82 games of solid center play.

Grizzlies, Lakers and Knicks are all in a position to offer a larger contract than the Spurs.

That's true, but the latter two teams and the way they are structure are a long way off from signing a quality player like Marc Gasol.

Do you know something about salary cap?
Just explain me how could we sign him.
