Will The Real Tony Parker Please Stand Up?

Post#1 » by co_laper » Tue Feb 24, 2015 6:01 pm

I mean seriously.. Can someone please ask Tony Parker to come out and play?

I'd say our defense is still good enough.

Tim Duncan is still his usual self. Manu isn't any worse than last year. Kawhi's improved but he's not ready to become our go to scorer yet. Parker has to be the head of the snake for us. He has to be the engine. His play this season is the biggest reason we're where we at. He went from being our best player to.. I don't know. I don't even consider him our top 5 players right now. I don't know if this is injury or what, and I hope it is and that it heals before the playoffs. But if it's not, we're just screwed. Kawhi is just not ready to be our go to scorer yet and he's certainly not experienced enough. Parker is our best option to be that guy. This year he's just showing glimpses of it.

Like I said all year, getting everyone's best effort and for us to lose the effort/intensity battle is expected. I definitely did not expect us to blow teams out over and over again like last year. I can't even remember if we even blow anybody out this year. We have targets on our back. Even so, I think we've given the appropriate effort and intensity even if we can't match our opponents most of the time. It's our offense that has gotten a lot worse. From my POV, Parker's play has been the biggest void. I would even say that CoJo's play has been better this season. If Parker is injured or that this is what a healthy Tony Parker is now, we might as well promote Joseph to starter. Atleast Joseph is gives better defense while not being any worse offensively than Tony Parker is this season. This version of Tony Parker just isn't good enough.

I think his situation is similar to Kawhi's. Both are injured but not injured enough not to play. TP looks a step slow and not able to finish like he has in the past. Some nubs will call it the age thing but IMO he's trying to come back from an injury that has him out of shape and a step slow. Its going to take some time with no setbacks to get back into the type of shape he was in last year. Of course he's not going to use that as an excuse, the same as Kawhi won't with his hand that needs surgery. I think you could also throw Belinelli on this list as well. He just looks to be playing injured. You could also say the same for Patty but he hasn't been playing that bad. I'm afraid though that we wont see the same Patty we saw last year until next season though. Sure it's nice we finally have everyone back and on the floor but IMO we are far from healthy at this point.

I agree with you that CoJo might be a better option for now but the only way TP is going to get in playoff shape is to play it out and hope he doesn't re-injure himself.

I still don't think Tony's anywhere close to 100% but I get what your saying. We either need to move him to the bench and start Cojo like you said, I actually think that would be a smart move Cojo would help us set the tone early on defense and Tony could come off the bench and score at will against backups, or we need to sit Tony down for a month and let him get his hamstring/or whatever it is that's bothing him right.

I was reading this article on TP talking about his decline this season.

To me, like some of you stated, it's about the injuries he has endured early on and how it has been a struggle to get back into playing shape. And he's not the only one to have these struggles. Injuries have been a main theme that has continue to take place this season. The Spurs were no exception.

I am even more worried about his blurry vision. The way i understand it will plague him all year.

I don't think it's an age thing. But he's got a ton of miles on the odometer for a 32 yr old and his game relies on that quickness. It would be sad if the youngest member of the spurs big 3 was the first to age out.

Especially weird since he had not gone to FIBA.
