Will Danny Green Be Back?

Post#1 » by co_laper » Wed Jun 24, 2015 5:43 pm

I think he's going to be the odd man out.

It seems likely that we're going to go after the big fish. Also likely that Duncan comes back, and I can't see him coming back for the minimum. And unless we do trade Diaw or Splitter for absolutely nothing (which I think won't happen) and use that cap room from the trade to sign Danny, then we won't have enough money.

Right now my biggest hope is we land a big name in FA. Then we resign Kawhi. Then whatever money we have left is used to sign Tim Duncan and hopefully Manu. Danny Green will go elsewhere, and during the season we'll try to move Tiago/Diaw for some perimeter help.

there basically g oes the spurs perimeter elite team defense, no green, no manu as backup

so the spurs are going to rely on kawhi and whatever horse crap is on the bench to fill in?

seems like management is going backwards, if they are still building around duncan or kawhi, then everyone is tradeable...yet how come enrique is immune from it? while we see players come and go on this team...management scared his going to start texting to their wves and daughters?

splitter getting traded and green signing somewhere else, if the spurs misses out on signing any individual fa name LMA, LOVE, then kawhi should be looking at the bigger picture that this teams roster is not a championship contender and he should seek out management or sign the QO and test FA the following year....and lol telling duncan to take a huge paycut to play for 6m a year?

Rumour is that the Mav's are going to offer him 10 to 12 million a season so if that happens I think he's gone. I like Danny but he's not worth it.

Losing him will hurt but he can replaced.

I agree with Nolan, he can be replaced. I love Danny, but if LMA shows up I don't see a place for him, especially if we are hoping Kawhi takes on more of an offensive load. I think the Spurs can find a tough perimeter defender at much friendlier price. $12 million a year is a lot for a role player.

I'm not really sure though. At the current cap numbers, 10-12 million for Danny Green is a lot. But it's gonna only be for a year. Once the cap rise, the average salary will be 9-10 million. That's gonna be the MLE. And Danny Green is definitely worth MLE.

Agreed. If we do a sign and trade for LMA that means we'd still have the MLE to use and I think we could get a adequate replacement for Danny with the MLE. Even with the jump in the cap coming we could do a lot with that money.

As a whole, he can be replaced. What we will (definitely) lose in defense, we'll make up in other areas.

Danny can't dribble or drive or create his own jumper so anyone that can do that will be a big help and balance out the loss of Danny's impressive D. Unless they find another guy who can actually defend. I hope he gets paid, he has worked hard and performed well. Led all guards in blocks last year and his Finals the last 2 years were a huge boost to his stock.

I agree with this. I think if we are to get LMA, it'll be on sign and trade.

If I don't misunderstand the CBA, if LMA signs a 1+1 outright with us, we won't have his bird rights because he'd need to be with us for 3 years to have his bird rights.

The only way we can get his bird rights is if Portland do a S&T and therefore we get his bird rights in the trade. So if LMA signs 1+1, then next year we're gonna need to have cap space again to resign him.
