Baynes signs with Pistons

Spurs center Aron Baynes on Thursday agreed to a lucrative multiyear deal with the Detroit Pistons, league sources confirmed to the Express-News.

Baynes, a 6-foot-10 center from Australia, had been with the Spurs the past three seasons and played on the 2014 NBA championship team. He played in 70 games for the Spurs, averaging 6.6 points and 4.5 rebounds in 16.0 minutes.

Although financial details were not immediately known, ESPN.com reported Baynes’ deal could be worth as much as $20 million over three years.

That represents quite a raise for a player who worked last season for a little more than $2 million as the last piece re-signed from the title squad.

Happy for the big guy. 3 years 20 million is a pretty solid deal.

More money than he was gonna get from SA. I'm getting a little concerned now because if LMA doesn't sign, the Spurs have a gigantic gaping hole in the middle without Baynes and Splitter.

Yeah we're kinda all in on LMA at this point. I guess Rolo and D-West could be a decent fallback guys.

As for Baynes i'm shocked he got that much. That's a boatload of cash for a backup center.

Well we really need to hit on either LMA or Gasol.
Big fan of Baynes sad to see him go but hard to say no to that kind of money.

Sounds like Gasol's staying in Memphis. He hasn't visited any other teams yet.

They are saying Lillard is flying to LA to plead with LMA to stay. If he stays or signs with Phoenix, what guys are left we could go after at this point?

Happy for him and glad he is getting paid. Seems a little high, but despite his age, he is still improving.

He's got an okay one, doesn't use it much though.

Yeah, he is average from mid-range, nothing out of the ordinary. I consider him one of those Jonas Jerebko, Jason Maxiel-type players. He is effective if used in small stretches but the minute you ask too much of him his game falls apart.
