G A M E D A Y: Spurs vs. Rockets

WHEN: Monday, MArch 6, 7:30PM Central
WHERE: AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX
TV: Fox Sports Southwest
LINE: Spurs -4.0After a couple of thrilling down-to-the-wire wins and a couple of incredible performances from our man Kawhi, buzz about his MVP prospects have been dialed up a bit around the Association-- that's what hanging 32.5ppg, 8.5rpg, 5.5apg and 4.5spg, along with a spate of clutch plays at the end of the games, will do. I'll bet good money he's on the short-list for Conference Player of the Week honors.
Still, his campaign hasn't overtaken that of MVP-talk-leader James Harden, who brings his Rockets to town following a big win over Memphis-- Houston's second in a row and their eighth in 10. My prediction is lots of prime-time moments between those two, and since Gino is the only major injury concern for either squad, my hope is a good game and a good win for the good guys.

(P.S. Apologies for there being no gameday thread Saturday)

next 7 days games are going to be very important for kawhi and the spurs...all statement games from here on if he wants to make a push for mvp/dpoy and 1st seed....
rockets/okc/gsw in 7 days...nice....

^ Yep
We need to beat Houston, win our two against OKC this month, take the Cleveland game, and win one of our final two against GS, and our combined record would be 10-2 against all the other mvp candidates. That and a 63+ win record, would be a pretty powerful narrative for Kawhi imo. I won't even mention what stats he needs, because we all know its death, taxes, and Kawhi scoring 30 now.

I remember in 2015 the Spurs defeated the Rockets(was it twice?), Thunder, and Warriors in the same week
It's time to do it again.
It's all going to be about switching, although they're shooting dreadfully from 3 against SA. Dedmon starting should hopefully help with the switching and Parker better be ready to go if he's not resting tonight. No one tall/swole enough to guard Kawhi (i don't think) so he should be able to get what he wants, put Danny on Harden.
Play hard tonight and go ahead and rest some guys on Wednesday, go ahead and rest Manu/Aldridge on Wednesday

Agreed. Having a big game tonight and pressuring Harden into a below-average game would have huge reverberations for the MVP race, and if he shows up Westbrook on Thursday, the press narrative could shift from Harden/Westbrook to Harden/Kawhi.

This would be a huge win for us. It'd put a little extra distance between us and them in the standings and it would be a great confidence builder.
Transition defense is going to be our biggest issue in this one. If lose track of their shooters in transition they will burn us badly.

the mvp is for kawhi to lose, i dont care what narrative the media wants to play..could be fake news click bait crap, but the truth is...kawhi is the real mvp, its only for him to lose atm
his backing up last season was not a fluke, he has improve his stats across the board, and a little bit of tweaking the roster, now the spurs are back where they are meant to be with a top5 offense and no.1 defense ....

Harden came into the game tonight knowing he needed to make a statement, and boy, IS he.

I agree; Green's D has been inconsistent all season, though.

you know they shoot 40+ 3pts, yet you continue to allow them open space to shoot the 3s....this is lame...
currently spurs just weathering the storm and continue to execute plays

I like the score, considering how many mistakes we made in the first half. Gotta put an extinguisher on Harden, though.
