PLAYOFFS ROUND 1: (2) Spurs vs. Grizzlies (7)

Post#1 » by Nolan » Thu Apr 13, 2017 9:33 pm

It's finally time the playoffs are here people!!

The schedule:

Game 1 - Saturday April 15, 6:00 PM MT @ Home
Game 2 - Monday April 17, 7:30 PM MT @ Home
Game 3 - Thursday April 20, 7:30 PM MT @ Memphis
Game 4 - Saturday April 22, 6:00 PM MT @ Memphis
Game 5 (if necessary) - Tuesday April 25, TBD @ Home
Game 6 (if necessary) - Thursday April 27, TBD @ Memphis
Game 7 (if necessary) - Saturday April 29, TBD @ Home

Memphis might only be the 7th seed but they are a tough team to play and this is not going to be an easy series. We have to bring it on both ends every night and match their physical style of play.

Focus is the key to this series. If we stay locked in we win, it's as simple as that.

Go SPURS!!

This series will be a grind; it 'feels' like a six-game series to me, and MEM could definitely play spoiler. As Nolan observed, we've got to be locked in, but I don't think anyone expects that to be a problem.

It's cool that the Gasol brothers are finally seeing each other in the playoffs for the first time.

The difference between being the 1st seed or the 2nd in terms of the first round opponent is huge...but the possibility of avoiding Clippers until WCF is a huge reward.

Unless we have those random ass 3-5 minute "don't know how to score all of a sudden" meltdowns... Spurs in 4.

Tony Allen injured...that's a huge loss for them.

Ugh, Grizz can't miss a shot early. And our 2 buckets were lucky.
Hope this doesn't get ugly quick. This team's MO when we lose games is to play uphill the entire game only to run out of gas late. We need to turn this around quick.

Here we go. Punched in the face early. I'm not sure this Spurs team can handle that. We look very old and slow. Usual suspects (Green) are no threat to make a shot.

Our weaknesses Ive been crying about all year are just glaring right now.
We need to figure out Gasol quick. He is scoring at will. We can't defend anyone. Memphis is the only team in this game playing like its a playoff game.

Gasol doing whatever he wants.

No-one doing anything except Kawhi and Tony trying to make something happen

I LOVE David Lee. We are down 15 in this game without him and he's only played like 5 minutes.

It seems pretty clear that this is going to be a competitive series, but I believe in the good guys.

The overreactions on the GB thread during the first six minutes were pretty funny; for a few minutes, the Spurs were the most overrated 60-win team in league history, based on six minutes of basketball.

This is why I stay far away from the GB

But I actually have to agree to a point. This is the most incomplete 60 win team I ever remember. Just shows how bad the league is as a whole.

It also shows the magnitude both of Pop's coaching and Leonard's value.

Not sure I can agree on Pop's coaching this year (and I love him like a father)
He still can't figure out how to get LA involved consistently.
I think we go overboard of the Kawhi hero ball at times.
He doesn't seem to be able to get anything out of Green and Anderson
Simmons is inconsistent as ever
Our offense is the hardest to watch Spurs offense Ive ever seen.

I agree with all of that; I just mean that in the aggregate, it's impressive to squeeze 61 wins out of this roster, even with all the weird imbalances in the league.

I don't know what to say about Aldridge, though, but I think most of his issues come from his being disappointed at not being the centerpiece of the team, and my guess is that Pop doesn't have much patience for that sort of thing, and that he'd rather let Aldridge pout than coddle him.

I know I sound super down on this team but I just get frustrated with how we play and most of our problems(besides age) are correctable. We can really make some noise here if we just started playing a little better basketball.
