Tony Parker's season is over

The Spurs announced Parker suffered an unspecified left leg injury and would undergo an MRI on Thursday.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich was clearly emotional as he answered reporters’ questions about Parker’s injury after the game. “It’s not good,” Popovich said in a low voice.

Manu Ginobili echoed Popovich’s comments, saying the Spurs “kind of know we’re not going to see him any time soon.”

It looked pretty harmless but he was in some obvious pain and now it sounds like he's going to miss some serious time.

Mills, Murray and everyone else need to step up. Parker has been huge for us in the playoffs, he will be missed.

Hope I am wrong....but could possibly an ACL type issue. Folks who strain/tear a ligament usually sustains it without any contact, just like how Tony fell down.

What a hell of a thing. For two years, Tony's frustrated the silver-and-black faithful, but he truly seemed to have rediscovered himself in these playoffs, and now...

...look, we don't have a lot of room to gripe about unfair circumstances, what with all the success our great team has had over the years. Still, this hurts, bad. As inconsistent as he's been the past two seasons, he's still a top-five all-time Spur and one of my very favorites.

We finally get our vision of a different starting backcourt, but it sure comes at a hefty price; we'll have to see if it can be what many of us have theorized.

I doubt we look at moving him. But this does make resigning Patty now priority number 1, 2 and 3.

This is also a golden opportunity for Murray though. Tony may not be ready until a month or two into next season. So this could be chance to take over if he plays well enough.

Tony's only on the books for one more season, so I don't think retirement is totally out of the question, and given the Spurs' tradition of loyalty, I don't think a buyout in lieu of a trade is, either. I'm not savvy enough on the business side of the NBA to be able to speculate, but it would be interesting if there were a way for Tony and the Spurs to settle, then for them to throw some of his money after George Hill.

I know CP3 isn't a realistic possibility, but how great would THAT be?

Tony's only on the books for one more season I don't think retirement is totally out of the question, and given the Spurs' tradition of loyalty, I don't think a buyout in lieu of a trade is, either. Tony retiring would really be the only way to get the cap space.

Not likely.

Also even if we do buy him out I do believe that he'd still count against out cap in some way. Not entirely sure how that works.

This stinks for the Spurs and Tony Parker!

How bad is Parker's injury? Is this gonna be it for his career? He's only got the one season left on his contract. I had thought the Spurs would go after George Hill in Free Agency. If Parker is not able to get back by the beginning of the year do you think they''ll go after Hill?

Not likely.

Also even if we do buy him out I do believe that he'd still count against out cap in some way. Not entirely sure how that works.

The way I understand it if he was to be bought out at say $10 million he would be dead money on the books counting $10 million. If he was stretched you would pay him his $15 and stretch it for 3 yrs at $5 million per year.

But I wouldn't expect that unless Parker is going to retire.

Ouch. This is a big setback at this stage of his career. He'll be back in the RS next season and play at a high enough level, but how he does in the playoffs will be another thing. Having a run like this:

16 PPG/3 APG/2 RPG in just 26 minutes a game? That too @ 53 FG% and 58 3PT%? The man was rocking it. We were well positioned for an actual title run. It was Golden State's first season together and we would've pulled it off. This is incredibly difficult to replace.
